Police today launched 'Ops Tutup' to hunt down six suspects armed with machetes believed to be in hiding at Taman Rekreasi Lembah Kiara, Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) here.

Brickfields district police chief SAC Azlee Abdullah said the suspects, believed to be foreigners, fled when police stopped them for checks.

"Members of the Tun Dr Ismail Crime Prevention branch patrolling the neighbourhood at about 4.30 am came across the group acting suspiciously at the TTDI Hill Park area and when they were stopped they ran into the nearby forest.

"We conducted a search operation in the forest area with the assistance of the K9 (dog) unit ... We also launched Ops Tutup immediately," he told reporters today.

He said the recreation park was now re-opened to the public.

"The gang believed to be active in the TTDI and Sri Hartamas areas carry out their activities early in the morning and break into occupied and unoccupied houses using machetes," he said.
