Kluang Umno division today passed a motion to call on the party supreme council to explain the 1MDB controversy to its members.

A second motion urged Putrajaya to lower the goods and services tax from 6 percent to 3 percent in order address cost of living issues.

This was voted on during the Kluang Umno division annual general meeting today.

Kluang Umno head Jais Sardy ( photo, left )said there were many motions put forth by party branches and division leaders had summarised it into two motions.

He said that a proposed motion calling for further explanation on the Altantuya Shariibuu murder was removed.

"There are many issues put forth by the branches, we summarised it through the two motions," said Jais, who is also the Mahkota state assemblyperson.

The Ilham Dato' Amar Umno branch had urged Najib to provide an explanation on the Altantuya murder, the ongoing 1MDB controversy and the government's new VIP jet.

Branches echoes Muhyiddin

These motions were included in a booklet distributed to the media and party delegates.

Ousted deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin was the guest of honour during the AGM.

He received a rousing welcome, similar to his reception during the Seremban and Kota Melaka Umno AGM yesterday.

Muhyiddin has been consistently critical of Najib's handling of 1MDB.

This culminated in his speech on July 26 in which he claimed that Umno would lose in the next general election due to the negative public perception caused by the 1MDB controversy.

Some of the motions in the motions book appear to reflect sentiments raised by Muhyiddin.

Many Umno divisions have retracted their invitations for Muhyiddin to grace their event after he was dropped from cabinet.
