Reveal funding for DAP's office, dares Umno Youth

The funding battle has now moved north with Penang Umno Youth seeking answers from the state DAP over its "multi-million" ringgit office on the island.

The movement's chief Rafizal Abdul Rahim ( photo ) wanted DAP to disclose the source of the funding for the building which was constructed just two years after Lim Guan Eng became chief minister in 2008.

He pointed out Gerakan, which governed Penang until the 2008 general election, took 12 years to build its headquarters and this was just an ordinary building.

Rafizal said he was making the call because DAP has been harping on Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to reveal the source of the RM2.6 billion donation.

"Since they want transparency, they must be transparent themselves.

"How did they afford to build a new headquarters in two years? Where is their funding from?" he was quoted as saying by Umno Online.

"So Penang Umno Youth is challenging them to answer. If they refuse, then it is best to keep their mouths shut and not be eager to find out others' source of funding," he added.

Calling on DAP to look into the mirror, Rafizal chided the opposition party for objecting to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) proposal to reform political funding.

"Now the prime minister has once again stated the intention to table this issue of reform. Will DAP have the courage to agree? Let's see what political games DAP will play to avoid this," he added.

On Monday, Lim, who is also party secretary-general, claimed that DAP was never contacted on any proposal to regulate political funding and dismissed the allegation his party had opposed it.
