'Kajang Move helped to destroy Pakatan'

For former Selangor menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, the 'Kajang Move' did more than cost him his job, it also caused rifts within the now dead Pakatan Rakyat.

Khalid said the move sidelined PAS in the opposition pact, stepped on its leaders, and split the party.

"The Kajang Move succeeded in demonising me, which caused me to lose my position.

"Even worse, this immoral political strategy also caused rifts in the ties between Pakatan component parties, due to rhetorical and hypocritical political attitudes," he said in a Facebook posting yesterday.

The Kajang Move relates to last year's Selangor menteri besar crisis, during which PAS butted heads with PKR and DAP over who would replace Khalid.

The Islamist party did not agree to PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail taking over, preferring Azmin Ali ( photo ) instead.

Ties between PAS, PKR and DAP soured further after two PAS assemblypersons went rogue and threw their support behind Wan Azizah.

These cracks eventually grew into fissures after DAP and PAS battled over hudud, and now the opposition pact is formally dead.

Khalid's posting was a comment on the end of his legal suit against former PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution, which was settled out-of-court, with an apology.

The Pelabuhan Klang MP said with the case settled, he could now focus on creating a political environment that would benefit the people.
