No place for Sabah, S'wak in 'Malay' M'sia

YOURSAY ‘Non-Malays will always play second fiddle to the Malays.’

Mahdzir: Political power must stay with Malays

Odin Tajué: Mahdzir Khalid, your pronouncements not only clearly show you have no regard at all for East Malaysia, but that you are also totally unfit to be education minister.

You said, inter alia, "Umno is the one who formed and built this country, with the support of MCA and MIC." That ‘country' was Malaya and not Malaysia. Since you cannot differentiate between the two, you are clearly no education minister material.

But this disregard for Sabah and Sarawak is nothing new and, therefore, is not surprising. Right from the time the idea of Malaysia itself was mooted, there was never any intention to regard the two sovereign states as equal partners but merely as colonies to be subjugated and fleeced.

You talk of the need to respect what has been agreed on vis-à-vis the federal constitution never mind what exactly were agreed on - when it is to the advantage of the Malays.

But you at Umno, right from Tunku Abdul Rahman himself and his time, have treated the celebrated 18-point/20-point Malaysia Agreements as mere pieces of paper containing words only meant to deceive Sabah and Sarawak into agreeing to come together with Malaya and Singapore to form Malaysia, and that the documents need not be recognised and respected because doing so would essentially be disadvantageous to the Malays.

You, Mahdzir, have further clearly illustrated your despicable character, that you are unfit to be a leader in the government of multi-racial, multi-religious Malaysia with your recent statement regarding Christians.

That you have offered no apology for your bigoted statement confirms your arrogance, gaucherie, indecency and unfitness. But even if you had offered an apology, it would have been meaningless, as it would most certainly not have been a sincere one.

Relevancy: Indeed, where does this leave the Sabahans and Sarawakians? Aren't they be allowed the opportunity to be PM for Malaysia, too?

Hang Babeuf: In other words, the minister assures us all of this: there is a place for everybody in Malaysia. The place of the Malays is on top. Now and forever. And Umno-led governments will always make sure of that.

Non-Malays too have a place. What place is that? The Malay leadership will tell them what it is - and confine them to it. But it is not "up for discussion", open to further debate and negotiation.

This is the Umno governing formula and doctrine. It is the doctrine of a bifurcated society, a society divided in perpetuity. One divided horizontally, between those forever "on top" and those forever condemned to inferiority and subjugation.

As is readily apparent to anybody with the desire and ability to see things clearly, this is simply not a tenable basis for nationhood, for national cohesion and unity. To have the education minister who thinks it is or can be is not just an embarrassment.

It is a tragedy and also a condemnation of the poverty of "official thinking" in Malaysia.

Quigonbond: I think they are stirring up s**t ahead of Bersih 4 rally this weekend. This is old argument, repeated many times like broken record.

It's simply impossible for Malays not to dominate politics, whether BN or Pakatan side. The civil service literally belongs to them, thanks to unfair treatment and putting race over merits.

I just cannot believe that Umno continues to harp on a very old and broken argument, because it just won't work with Malay youngsters anymore who are more discerning.

The PM is probably relying on as much noise and discordance as much as possible to distract us from 1MDB.

XED: More racism. Blatant racism. Does this minister want to annoy the other bumiputeras in Sabah and Sarawak, including local Malays, where Malays, certainly Peninsular Malays, are in the minority there?

In fact, in Sabah and Sarawak, the Peninsular Malays are seen as "pendatang", as exploiters and bullies.

There seems to be a place for everyone in Malaysia, including in the cabinet, with a minister for education and another for higher education.

Are they that busy that the education portfolio is split and there are also deputy ministers and an army of high-ranking civil servants to assist these ministers? Jobs for the supporters at the expense of taxpayers?

Even Malays must fear a system where evil, corrupt and incompetent Malay leaders rule, getting the lion's share for themselves.

Gunnerrun: Why discriminate based on skin colour? I did not ask my parents or God to be born not a Malay. All I know, God is all love, all merciful and all powerful, among many others and there is every reason for a person to be born other than a Malay, Chinese or Indian for that matter.

I think looking how things are so diverse and different in every aspect is that He would want us to cast aside our differences, appreciate them but still merge forces for the greater good.

As our leaders, you should be treating all your "sons and daughters" equally; who else can we go to if not you, as our "parents?"

It's always embarrassing when one tries explaining the "discriminatory" practices to a friend from another country. Because of the existence this double standards, we can't never achieve true friendship, brotherhood, harmony and peace in the truest sense.

P Dev Anand Pillai: This is an indirect fortification of fact that non-Malays will always play second fiddle to the Malays.

No matter how good you are, as long as you are non-Malay, there is always that glass ceiling that you will have to contend with, unless of course you convert to Islam and forget your roots.

Therefore instead of beating about the bush, let’s just accept the fact that there is no such thing as equality here.

Yes, Malays shall lead but let them be clean
