Dr Mahathir Mohamad has nothing but praise for Langkawi Umno delegate Anina Saaduddin who sued Umno president Najib Abdul Razak yesterday.

The suit is in relation to the RM2.6 billion deposited in the Najib's personal accounts.

Mahathir, in an event in Pasir Gudang today was asked by Anina if she would be sacked from the party and whether she was in danger after taking such a drastic action.

"In business, if there's no risk, there is no gain. If you want to be safe, don't do it.

"That's why I want to congratulate you for being brave," he told Anina.

Mahathir ( photo ) nevertheless said he believed no action would be taken against Najib as the latter "did not allow for the rule of law to go its course".

"Those who lodge reports will be tortured, removed or sacked. Maybe you won't be safe," he said to Anina who had, before suing Najib, filed a complaint with the Umno disciplinary board.

"But I think if everyone in the stadium here today lodge police reports, who would they sack?

"If thousands of people lodge reports, come for the Bersih rally and urge Umno MPs to support a vote of no confidence against Najib, he will go," he said.

Ringgit will continue to fall

Anina yesterday filed the suit against Najib to reclaim a portion of the RM2.6 billion alleged party donations said to have left the country.

A large portion of the funds, which The Wall Street Journal had exposed was deposited into Najib's personal accounts, were allegedly transferred to Singapore two years ago.

Meanwhile, Mahathir today was also asked on how long the country could last with the current economy, especially with the worsening ringgit.

"I think the ringgit will continue to fall and I'm not sure for how long.

"People don't want to use the ringgit anymore. If they have the ringgit, they want to change to other currencies," he said.

He also added that it was "all fun" for the neighbouring Singaporeans because things in Malaysia were considered really cheap for them due to the worsening ringgit against the Singaporean dollar.

"Things will become worse in the future. I can't see the problems being solved in the near future unless that person is no longer around," he said, alluding to Najib ( photo ).

To another question whether consumers should only be taxed at 3 percent under the goods and services tax (GST) or whether the tax system should be abolished completely, he believes that the latter option should be the case.

"I believe it should just be abolished. The rakyat are suffering and they collect money from those who are suffering.

"That is the GST. Which taxes all transactions and burdens the rakyat.

"It's not enough that the ringgit has fallen, taxes now increase," he said.
