An Interpol slap in the face for Putrajaya

YOURSAY ‘It’s mind-boggling that Najib and Co think others should act like they do.’

Interpol rejects Malaysia's red notice bid on Clare

Kim Quek: Interpol has just delivered a big slap on the face of PM Najib Razak and his government with the former’s almost instantaneous rejection of Malaysia’s request to nab Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown.

Interpol further advised all its 190 members (which include Malaysia) not to approach Interpol again on the Rewcastle-Brown case and requested them to remove Rewcastle-Brown from their database.

Imagine the folly of the BN government asking Interpol to arrest a world-renowned democracy activist on charges of sabotaging democracy when this government’s own transgression of democracy has stunk to high heaven.

If our autocrat is too much drunk with power to feel the shame, at least spare some thoughts for his countrymen who may not be similarly disposed to withstand such shame.

CQ Muar: Inspector-general of police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar, where are you going to hide your face with this international embarrassment?

You reckon your authority, which can be easily abused in Malaysia, is equally valid internationally?

And now, the joke is on you and Malaysia. What more with 190 member countries being notified to ignore all requests with regard to Rewcastle-Brown's 'arrest'.

Kingfisher: This is another significant notch down for Malaysia's credibility. Is all these necessary for what seem obvious as futile attempts to retain power in the hands of one leader.

Paul Warren: So embarrassing. Can we sue the idiots in this country who have now jeopardised the country’s access to Interpol?

After all, they may throw out all future requests from PDRM (Royal Malaysian Police).

Come to think of it, considering the request was made on PDRM letterhead, they have embarrassed the king and the royal institution as well.

John Malott: This is, of course, a major embarrassment and black eye for the Malaysian government.

It is mind-boggling that Najib and Company think the rest of the world should act like they do, and that can export their authoritarian Umno mentality overseas.

As I said the other day, it's " game over " internationally for Najib. The rest of the world now knows the truth about you.

Grey Matter: The Interpol rejection proves that Malaysia is a rogue nation where the leaders would do anything for money and power.

Fortunately, the world can see through these primitive minds. It's such an embarrassment or rather a slap on the face for Malaysia. We should not only ask the PM to step down but rather the whole government which supports him.

Res Ipsa: The Malaysian police’s red notice request on Rewcastle-Brown was made on Aug 4. The decision by Interpol on the request was made on Aug 9 and communicated to all member states.

However, the government did not bother to inform the public about this decision. As usual, the matter has to be exposed by a third party. I wonder what story the IGP is going to cook up now.

J Ng: The twists and spins on 1MDB by PM's cronies and benefactors are doing more harm than good. Every spin and retaliatory measures helped to strengthen public suspicion of their wrongdoings and corruption.

Locally, the government can harass and intimidate by imposing media and travel restriction, sacking/transferring investigators and arresting dissidents, blocking websites, and even banning Bersih T-shirts, etc.

However, these local 'clowns' will have a hard time when it involved foreign institutions and judicial system.

Sabahan: So what is deemed illegal is actually legal in countries in other parts of the world, and our IGP has publicly confirmed that. It makes the police and judiciary a laughing stock and objects of ridicule.

Rupert16: This shows that even Interpol knows about the many lies and attempted cover-ups by Najib and his minions with respect to the 1MDB scam.

This further confirms the veracity of the Sarawak Report and the scale of the alleged corruption involving Najib, Jho Low and others.

Real Truth: Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi wrote a letter of recommendation in favour of an alleged kingpin who ran an illegal online gambling operation and without any shame he asked Interpol for a red alert notice on someone who exposed the 1MDB scandal. Where is his sense of decency?

Zahid can form its own Islamic Interpol since Najib has received a big donation for fighting IS. That way we do not need these white supremacists. Indeed, we should form our own international police force.

Send in the Clowns: This is dedicated to the IGP - "I started a joke which started the whole world laughing... Oh, if I'd only seen that the joke was on me."
