YOURSAY l ‘They have spoken out fearlessly in defence of their colleagues.’

'Chinese targeted to divert attention from 1MDB'

Ferdtan: Whatever the outcome of PM Najib Razak’s RM2.6 billion ‘donation’ in his personal account and the 1MBD mega scandal, there is one tiny bit of positive news emerging from the whole episode.

It is the angry voices of top civil servants against the powers-that-be. This is totally unprecedented as they were often seen to be completely cowed and servile to the politicians. How far this anger can be sustained to stop the rot of interference by the ruling government?

At least it is a start with a few brave men speaking out fearlessly in defence of their colleagues. Ex-Special Branch deputy chief Abdul Hamid Bador is one of them.

Previously people like Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) special operations division director Bahrin Mohd Zin had lashed out at the authorities (under the orders of ministers) for the hauling up of its department DPP Ahmad Sazilee who was involved in the investigation of 1MBD.

In turn, Bahri himself and another MACC officer Rohaizad Yaakob were issued transfer orders. Then MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Mohd Shukri Abdull stepped in and requested reinstatement of his two men and offered himself as a trade-off.

The mere fact they, the civil servants, had spoken out set a precedent (a good one) warning all, including PM and his ministers, not to interfere with their job.

Mushiro: Abdul Hamid is correct. Umno has tried many tactics to divert the 1MDB issue away from Najib but each of these attempts has failed.

Umno is now playing the Chinese bogeyman card in their last attempt to save Najib.

Bamboo: Indeed, Abdul Hamid has pointed out the obvious. Thankfully Umno hasn't succeeded in initiating racial riots.

Umno needs to be kicked out of power as it isn't running the country for the better but using all dubious means to hang onto power and allegedly looting public money.

Hplooi: That's the trouble with Malaysia. The 'public' (i.e. the constituency which holds the power to decide its leaders) emphatically exclude citizens not constitutionally Malays.

That's why such a diversionary tactic is the old saw in its playbook. From Operation Lallang, PKFZ (Port Klang Free Zone) to the Cowgate episode, views of citizens who are not constitutional Malays are not worthy of consideration and are criminalised.

Spinnot: Yes, sad to say that the diversionary tactic has been a resounding success - we hardly talk about 1MDB and the RM2.6 billion ‘donation’ since Sept 16.

Dont Just Talk: If only Malaysia has more man in blue like the former Special Branch deputy chief Abdul Hamid, then we could see some light in the dark tunnel.

By boldly speaking the truth, Abdul Hamid will most likely face disciplinary action from PDRM (Royal Malaysian Police) and even run the risk of losing his pension after serving 37 years in the force.

These are the few good men that ‘Bersih’ Malaysians will remember, but how many

more have the courage to speak up like Abdul Hamid for the love of the country.

Abdul Hamid would rather stand on his feet than kissing those dirty, corrupted hands that bled Malaysia dry and blamed the Chinese for trying to topple the scandalous Najib, who was caught with RM2.6 billion wired into his personal account.

James_3392: Abdul Hamid, you were the No 2 man in the SB (Special Branch). The late Yuen Yuet Ling spent a large part of his career in the SB as well, and he not only put his life on the line but risk the life of his entire family defending the country against our enemies.

Don't talk about former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail, how about you comparing yourself to Yuen?

Anonymous 2316291440752008: Please stop making assumptions and allegations. Please do not confuse the public. As a civil servant, you should know your limitation.

GE14NOW!: Once again, thank you to Umno cybertroopers for subscribing to Malaysiakini . As usual, their comments are inane and absurd and without even a smidgen of critical thinking.

But that is what Umno wants - loyal people who are not too intelligent (that's what the prime fundraiser said).

The problems surrounding 1MDB should be relentlessly pursued until the entire truth comes out and those who have been guilty of mismanagement, incompetence and even corrupt practices are put in jail.

At the end of the day, if there is going to be a bailout for 1MDB, the money will come from the taxpayers, and it should not.

It's about time that those who are responsible be held accountable. Corruption in Malaysia needs to be stopped and if jailing the chief fundraiser is the only way to do it then so be it!

Thanks Abdul Hamid for calling a spade, a spade.

Xiao Zhu: Chinese Malaysians knew long ago that they are side-tracking many issues. This is, after all, part of Sun Tzu's Art of War.

But there is no way we can overthrow the government, when the armed forces, police and government servants are majority manned by Malay Malaysians.

BTN: If and when the people vote in a new government, we have to ensure all the agencies in this country are revamp so that they can function independently without any interference. Abdul Hamid, just be patience as election is not far away

7888888: Finally, an honest and brave civil servant. That, too, a Malay. And there are many such Malay civil servants. They just need to have the guts to speak up. Saving Malaysia is not ‘haram’.
