Rahman Dahlan: Mukhriz can't shock us any more

Mukhriz Mahathir's declaration that he can now be more outspoken after being ousted as Kedah menteri besar has not left BN strategic communications director Abdul Rahman Dahlan even a little bit worried.

Rahman, who is also urban well-being, housing and local government minister, said nothing Mukhriz could say would come as a shock any more.

"He has already been outspoken before this. He has been asking the prime minister and president of the party to step down, openly and publicly.

"I don't think there are any more shocks coming from him that he has not said before," Rahman told a press conference after visiting the Bukit Tagar sanitary landfill in Hulu Selangor today.

Earlier, Rahman expressed his satisfaction with the sanitary landfill managed by KUB-Berjaya Enviro Sdn Bhd and took questions on the matter.

When the subject of the questions transitioned to Mukhriz, Rahman quipped: "We talked about recycled (in the) environment. And now, recycled politicians."

Elaborating on Mukhriz's ouster, he said that it had nothing to do with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak who is fending off resignation calls from Mukhriz's father, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

"This has nothing to with the prime minister and I hope those making such accusations will stop because (the ouster) was by the centre of powers in Kedah.

"For example, a massive majority of the Umno division leaders did not support Mukhriz... the Youth, Wanita, Puteri, assemblypersons and MPs and even the exco members Mukhriz appointed all believed that Kedah needed a new menteri besar.

"How do you work under those circumstances?" he said.

Rahman also dismissed concerns that Mukhriz's replacement, Ahmad Bashah Mohd Hanipah, as menteri besar would hurt BN in the next general election.

"This party is not made out of one person," he said.

He expressed confidence that Ahmad Bashah would be up to the task as the new Kedah menteri besar, using Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem as an example.

"When the Sarawak chief minister took over, many doubted him and questioned his capability.

"Today, he is one of the most popular and successful chief ministers of Sarawak," Rahman added.
