Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor did not discount the possibility of suspended Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin being sacked.

“If he does it again, just wait then,” he said simply, when asked whether there were plans to sack Muhyiddin.

Tengku Adnan earlier told reporters that should Muhyiddin continue with his ways that “undermine and destroy” the party, he is confident that the party's disciplinary committee will ultimately sack him.

“It’s up to the disciplinary committee if he continues to do things that will destroy the party,” he said.

Muhyiddin’s suspension will last until the next Umno elections.

Tengku Adnan today also confirmed that Muhyiddin will therefore be able to contest in the next party elections should he wish to do so.

Meanwhile, asked whether action will also be taken against branch leaders who are against party president Najib Abdul Razak, Tengku Adnan said it was not a matter of being anti-Najib or otherwise.

“People say that we (Umno) are not democratic. But if we are not democratic, the supreme council would have sacked Muhyiddin yesterday.

“But because we follow the (party) constitution (whereby) as deputy president he must assist the president and safeguard the party’s image but he didn't, so we suspended him from his post,” he said.

Muhyiddin was yesterday suspended from the post of Umno deputy president, which came into immediate effect.

His suspension came as no surprise, however, as he has been increasingly vocal in his criticism of Najib after the latter sacked him as deputy prime minister last year.
