The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) is struggling to complete its report on the controversial 1MDB and table it to the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday, the final day of the present Parliament sitting.

This was revealed by PAC member William Leong when met at the Parliament lobby today.

"We are working very hard now to finish it today, but I don't think we can," he said.

This is because, said Leong, the PAC had gone through its longest hearings - 10 official proceedings - and needs to draft a comprehensive report out of them.

"We began to draft the report two weeks ago and so far, three to four meetings have been held," he said.

The most challenging part was the PAC having to include all of 1MDB's transactions since its inception in 2009, he added.

"There were so many transactions and so many things that have happened in 1MDB. We are talking about the whole lifespan of 1MDB, " said Leong.

Yet to draw conclusion

However, the opposition MP said the PAC members from both sides of the divide have yet to draw a conclusion on the 1MDB probe.

When asked about the possible findings on 1MDB, he said it could vary.

He cited the controversial Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) case, which the PAC ultimately recommended further investigative action against the person in charge.

He also brushed off any possibility that the PAC would come up with a "satisfactory" remark about the state-owned fund.

"I think if everyone knows the story, it is very difficult for anyone to say it is 'up to satisfactory'," he said.

If the PAC can complete its 1MDB report today, he said, the committee will table it in Parliament on Thursday.

He hopes the PAC could table its report together with the classified auditor-general's report on 1MDB.

The PAC, which consists of 14 members from both sides of the divide, he said, had thus far agreed through consensus on how the report would be drafted.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had instructed PAC to probe 1MDB in March 2015 amidst the 1MDB scandal.

The PAC may need to table its report in the next Parliament session, which commences on May 16, said its member Tony Pua.
