K KANGSAR POLLS PAS and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) share the same DNA, MCA president Liow Tiong Lai warned Chinese voters in Kuala Kangsar.

Therefore, he claimed, voters should not be duped by DAP once again.

According to Liow, liberal factions do not exist within Amanah or PAS, DAP's former ally.

"There are only two factions in PAS and Amanah - extreme or more extreme," he said in Kampung Baru Jerlun this morning.

Liow said Amanah and PAS' ultimate goal was to implement an Islamic state in Malaysia.

The MCA president also lambasted PAS for not being grateful to the Chinese voters who supported the party in the last general election.

"The Chinese trusted DAP and empowered PAS. The Islamist party, however, is not thankful to the community.

"PAS passed the enactment in the state assembly to allow hudud to be implemented in Kelantan," he added.

'MCA will stop Hadi's bill'

Liow also pledged that MCA would defend the Federal Constitution to stop PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's Private Member's Bill on the Syariah Court (Criminal Jurisdiction) Bill 2016, from being passed in Parliament.

Liow further claimed that even the Sarawak Chinese, who backed DAP in 2011 to topple the then chief minister Abdul Taib Mahmud, stopped supporting the party in the recent state election.

"The DAP continues to suffer after the election. The Chinese voters not only refused to listen (to DAP), they supported SUPP and BN," he said.

Liow then spoke of a Chinese primary school directors board that had asked for an allocation for the school.

"I want you to empower MCA. (You can) ask MCA for allocations, but (I) hope you will empower MCA so we can do more," he said.

MCA had begun campaigning in the 40-year-old Kampung Baru Jerlun, an opposition stronghold in 2013 general election, even before nomination day.

The people there have been promised a community hall, which Liow officiated at a ground-breaking ceremony today. Liow also pledged an allocation of RM500,00 from MCA for the community hall's construction.

In his five-minute speech, MCA Perak state executive council member Dr Mah Hang Soon explained how the state government approved the land.

At a brief press conference later, Liow said the party was confident that the Chinese votes were returning to BN.

However, he declined to say what percentage of the Chinese votes was expected to go to BN in the by-election, citing strategy reasons.

Liow, who is also transport minister, distanced MCA and BN from Umno's role in putting forward Hadi's bill on hudud.

"It is Hadi and PAS that proposed and tabled this bill in Parliament. So, ask PAS, not me. You must ask PAS what it is doing to this country.

"The Chinese are very clear, so there is no point for DAP to try to turn around to say it's Umno, MCA and BN (behind hudud). BN has nothing to do with the bill.

"MCA will defend our BN consensus, MCA will continue to defend the spirit of the BN consensus," Liow added.
