Charging of Lim 'poetic justice', says Khir Toyo

Fomer Selangor menteri besar Dr Khir Toyo has called the charging of Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng "poetic justice".

"When I was sentenced to prison, DAP considered it a huge win for them.

"Therefore, although I sympathise with Lim Guan Eng, I feel the most accurate statement for DAP is what was said by Parti Cinta Malaysia vice-president Huan Cheng Guan: padan muka (serves you right),” said Khir in a statement today.

He added Lim should not compare his present charges with the former Umno menteri besar's.

Khir was originally sentenced to a one-year jail term for using his position to obtain land and a bungalow, nine years ago.

He was granted parole on March 29, after serving six months in Kajang Prison.

Lim, in his public statement after being charged this week, said, "There have been attempts to draw similarities between my case and former Selangor menteri besar Mohd Khir Toyo. This is wrong."

"Unlike Khir Toyo’s case, Phang did not make a loss of RM5 million ...

"Unlike Khir Toyo’s case, Phang is not a housing developer that has to be reliant on state government to continue her business," said Lim.

'No comparison'

Khir said he had not wanted to comment on Lim's graft case, but was compelled to response to "correct him".

He pointed out he had bought his house half-complete and according to market valuation at RM 3.5 million and not RM 6.5 million as was used by Lim's explanation.

The latter figure was based on the final costs of his house after completion and full furnishings, he said.

He added in his case it was not a factor that the seller did not eventually gain any benefit as Permodalan Negeri Selangor Bhd also rejected the latter's application.

Khir said he was charged for using his position to obtain something without adequate compensation, and that the seller had admitted in court that he had not agreed to the selling price but had to do so for fear his business in Selangor would be negatively affected.

"Therefore, I advise Lim to stop comparing his case with mine," he said.
