The Pakatan Harapan coalition is seeking a “joint victory” in Penang if a snap election is called, said Selangor Menteri Besar and PKR deputy president Azmin Ali.

He emphasised the need for a win-win situation for the opposition when asked about comments that PKR risks losing a few seats if such an election is called.

“There are all kinds of analysis, but what is important is that when a decision is made, we want a joint victory in Pakatan Harapan’s name, as well as (keep) our relations with PAS.

“We have learnt the lessons of Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar, and surely it has given us a message. The people have given their message to all political parties, so it's time we discussed what is the best option for Penang,” he told reporters today.

Azmin was speaking after launching the Selangor Book Fair at the Shah Alam Convention Centre today.

Earlier today, PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar had expressed concerns that opposition may stand to lose a few seats if DAP goes ahead with its plans to hold a snap election in Penang.

Due to the possibility of three-cornered fights, she said, only Umno would have something to gain from the election.

Thus far, Amanah has backed DAP’s plans to call for a snap election, but PKR has deferred its decision pending further discussions.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has given assurance that the decision on whether to call for the snap election would be made by consensus within Pakatan Harapan, but has indicated that he would not wait for too long.

Thus far, PKR had said that it was still not yet convinced of the need to hold the snap election, but is still open to dialogue.

Therefore, a high-level delegation would be sent to Penang to make its stand known to DAP.

When asked repeatedly when the delegation would be sent, Azmin only replied “soon”.
