Apandi, platitudes won’t save us from ‘grand larceny’

YOURSAY | ‘AG, you forgot. You had earlier asked the MACC to close its file.’

Nobody implicated in 1MDB debacle will go 'scot-free', vows Apandi

Odin Tajué: Attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali, where is the hard evidence to show that the celebrated US$681 million had come from a member of the Saudi royal family?

On July 21, even after being shamed by the US attorney-general, a civil servant doubtless far more competent than you could even dream to be, you obstinately contended that there was no evidence of money having been stolen from 1MDB.

1MDB itself claimed that it had lost no money. Last week, Malaysian Official 1 blithely announced that there was nothing (wrong) with 1MDB and that all was as usual.

You were then reported to have stated that nobody implicated in the 1MDB debacle would go scot-free. But why would there be any debacle, since you all have said or implied that there has been no wrongdoing, no misappropriation, no stealing committed?

It has also been reported that you were considering despatching observers stateside to monitor the imminent proceedings there. Why should that be necessary, since you all have contended nothing unlawful has been perpetrated by 1MDB and, by extension, its employees and others connected to it?

Moreover, it wasn’t exactly when dinosaurs were still roaming this planet that you stopped investigations into the 1MDB financial improprieties, and yet you were reported to have indicated that the processes were still in place.

Which brings us to about the same question again - why are investigations necessary if nothing wrong has happened?

You and the rest in your camp are the absolute pits. You all have less than zero credibility. The words truth, honesty, principle and integrity are clearly absent in your dictionaries.

Bluemountains: "Apandi said the matter is still being investigated by the police and MACC..."

Which matter are you referring to, Apandi? Are you referring to the US$681 million transferred from Tanore Finance to PM Najib Razak's account, which you have earlier assumed to be a donation from an Arab?

Puzzling: Apandi, you said it rightly that nobody will go scot-free if he is implicated. By the way, does this also apply to your boss?

How could the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) ever conclude its investigation when you did not even grant them permission to conduct investigation overseas through the mutual assistance arrangement (MLA)?

Have you instructed MACC to reopen its file, now that the US Department of Justice (DOJ) had made so much more revelation about money going into Malaysian Official 1’s (MO1) bank account?

Is this the same money as the much talked about "Saudi donation"?

Rick Teo: Apandi, you forgot. You had earlier asked the MACC to close its file. So since when was the directive to open the file again?

Don’t lie to the public because eventually you will have to pay a price.

From Penang: There is a big question that AG has so far not been answering.

He concluded before the US$681 million went to the PM’s private account is from a "Saudi donor", however, the DOJ shows the US$681 million came from 1MDB and bank in from Tanore Finance Corporation owned by Eric Tan (an associate of Jho Low).

Did the AG lie to cover up the alleged wrongdoing of PM?

Justine Gow: What investigation is Apandi talking about? He has already concluded a long time ago that 1MDB has done no wrong.

If he is really serious about investigating 1MDB, MO1 should be the first person to be charged.

Anonymous 2336891439170985: To those who hope that Apandi can do justice to those alleged criminals who stole from 1MDB, I advise them to stop day dreaming.

As far as Apandi is concerned, and in his own words, the 1MDB file is already closed. He makes this present promise because he had forgotten what he had told us a few months back.

Please excuse him as his age is catching up on him.

Anak JB: The AGs of Switzerland, Singapore and US have taken actions while at the epicentre of the money laundering and corruption, our AG is still in stupor mode having cleared MO1.

Shamsulselamat: No doubt. The crooks will go scot-free in Malaysia. Only the righteous will be prosecuted for exposing the crooks and their misdeeds.

Such is the consequence when the ignorant elected the immoral leaders to power. We, as a people, are doomed, unless we chose to be united with the crooks.

Then again, those who play with fire will ultimately be burnt by it. Head we, the people, lose. Tail, we lose. There is no way out.
