Attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali has given his assurance that nobody will go "scot-free" if they are implicated in the 1MDB debacle, but said the matter is still under investigation by the authorities here.

He was asked whether action would be taken against those named in the United States Department of Justice lawsuits, including on Penang-born businessman Jho Low.

Apandi said the matter is still being investigated by the police and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), and they should be allowed to do their work.

“After that, I will make a decision whether to charge or not to charge. Nobody will go scot-free,” he assured.

Besides Jho Low, or Low Taek Jho, those named in the court papers include Riza Aziz, who is prime minister Najib Abdul Razak's step-son. Also named is 'Malaysian Official 1' who was mentioned 36 times, who many feel is a reference to Najib.

Others named include officials from 1MDB. In addition, two former officials of a sovereign fund in Abu Dhabi that participated in deals with 1MDB, Khadem Abdulla Al-Qubaisi and Mohammed Ahmed Badawy Al-Husseiny, are also mentioned.
