The alumni of the pro-establishment Mahasiswa Aspirasi Malaysia have cautioned students against falling prey to the opposition, which it claims uses numerous methods to turn students into puppets to serve their political and personal interests.

Alumni president Mohd Shahar Abdullah also reminded the students that it is they, and not those who influenced them, who would have to bear the consequences of their actions, including the risk to their future.

“If you as students want to champion something for the good of all, why on the streets, and not help resolve social ills or help the unfortunate instead?

“They have to realise what their doing, and why they are holding the rally.

“Do they truly understand the demands of the rally... and do they understand the impact on society in the future?” he said in a statement.

Mohd Shahar was responding to the Tangkap MO1 rally, which is slated to be held in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.

Although expressing confidence in the students, the alumni president, however, claimed that students are too gullible in believing the slander and propaganda of certain quarters against the leadership of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Mohd Shahar also said those organising the rally did not represent all students in the country.

MO1 is the abbreviation for Malaysian Official 1, who was mentioned 36 times in the US Department of Justice (DOJ) court filings with regard to funds allegedly misappropriated from 1MDB.

The DOJ believes more than US$3.5 billion was stolen from the Malaysian fund and at least US$731 million of this money entered the personal bank accounts of MO1.
