Even as evidence piles up, Abdul Rahman continues to spin

YOURSAY | ‘Once Najib steps down as the head of government… the DOJ will pursue him.’

MO1 is Najib, but why didn't DOJ name him, asks Rahman Dahlan

RM2.6 Billion Turkey Haram: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department and BN strategic communications director Abdul Rahman Dahlan, thanks for confirming that PM Najib Razak has actually taken US$681 million from 1MDB. But to absolve Najib of the blame for the failures of 1MDB is ridiculous.

Najib cannot claim ignorance that billions of 1MDB funds were siphoned off to his associate Jho Low, stepson Riza Aziz and most importantly, to his own account. It is just like a zoo keeper claiming that he is not aware that the elephants under his care have been stolen.

As it is no secret that Najib is the one named by the US Department of Justice (DOJ), he should now come forward to answer questions over his involvement in the scandals, the magnitude of which is unprecedented.

Najib should now own up that the donation is not after all a donation, but money siphoned from 1MDB. And his whole cabinet of ministers must apologise to the people for telling lies after lies on the 'donation'.

FellowMalaysian: Indeed, if Najib is such a responsible prime minister as made out by Abdul Rahman, why did he keep quiet about the identity of Malaysian Official 1 (MO1) when he was mentioned 36 times in the US Department of Justice’s (DOJ's) forfeiture suits and he did not have the gumption, sincerity nor the courage to announce that he was MO1 in the past six weeks since the suits were served?

Abdul Rahman also claimed that Najib's name was not mentioned in DOJ's civil suit as he was not part of the investigation. Isn't this making a highly presumptuous assumption that Najib is not a party involved in the misappropriation of 1MDB's billon-dollar funds?

Abdul Rahman is already 'proclaiming' Najib's innocence when he mentioned that Najib should not be held responsible for the failures of 1MDB. Shouldn't this task be left to the judges of the courts of justice to decide?

Telestai!: "But, I have also said, why didn't the DOJ name him by his proper name? That's because he is not part of this investigation," said Abdul Rahman. The answer is "not yet".

Once Najib steps down as the head of government, as sure as the sun rises from the east, the DOJ will pursue him. Never mind the DOJ did not name him categorically, it is shameful enough to be mentioned 36 times in the document.

As a man in the street, I don't know where to put my face if I am referred to 36 times in the DOJ suit.

Rick Teo: Abdul Rahman is talking nonsense without knowing the standard procedure with respect to the treatment of a sitting head of state.

Because Najib is a sitting PM, it is part of protocol to not disclose his or her name although he/she may be involved in the criminal offence.

Once Najib steps down from office, he will be indicted for money laundering and kleptocracy. That is how the US system works. So while Najib remains in office, he is protected by the protocol.

Dont Just Talk: Abdul Rahman, just to recap the events leading to 1MDB and subsequently with DOJ and US attorney-general Loretta Lynch saying that US$3.5 billion was stolen from the Malaysian people using 1MDB.

Round 1: When allegations that US$681 million was wired into Najib's account, Umno leaders replied that the rumour was the work of opposition parties.

Round 2: When evidence started to surface, Umno leaders said that Najib is not that stupid to receive US$681 million into his personal account.

Round 3: When evidence of the wire-transfer was produced, Umno leaders said it was a donation from a rich Arab, oops, later changed to Arabs.

Finally, when DOJ and AG Lynch listed out the assets owned by Riza, a relative of the MO1, Malacca Chief Minister Idris Haron said that foreign powers are trying to kill the Malays.

Malaysians are not fools and even the roadside nasi lemak seller can also tell Abdul Dahlan that MO1 is PM Najib.

Anonymous 1890491455255851: Good grief. How much more of this sort of nonsense can this man and the rest from Umno keep spinning?

They should read the signs and know that this ridiculous manoeuvring around the evidence presented by the DOJ is just not working. It is only making them and the PM look like complete fools.

ANA: Abdul Rahman, you are a BN spin doctor, so we should not accept more. Most Malaysians are not fooled.

The issue is the embezzlement of 1MDB monies and the details outlined in the DOJ compliant. Perhaps you should invest your time reading it. That's what should be troubling the Umno leadership.

RM16 billion has potentially gone missing and what are the authorities in Malaysia doing about it? The reaction from our leadership simply defies belief. Umno's reputation is where it deserves to be... in the gutter.

Your focus is simply to try and clear the PM by delinking him from the US asset recovery action. We look like a nation of fools given the details in the DOJ complaint and the findings of our own investigation that concluded no monies missing.

The immediate reaction from the leadership should have been to reopen our own investigation and make it transparent to the nation. To date the initial report is OSAed (put under the Official Secrets Act). Why?

TimesAchanging: This man seems to be almost begging the DOJ to name MO1. I think his wish will be granted in due course when the DOJ files criminal charges. So far, they are recovering the money first.

Even if MO1 is not named by DOJ law sut, it did spell out clearly what his wrongdoings are. These men have no shame. How could they meet other world leaders with a straight face?

It took one full month for Putrajaya to admit Najib is MO1
