Police today arrested two men for allegedly assaulting Johor Water Commission (SAJ) staff who tried to discontinue the water supply to the suspects' home.

The suspects, aged 36 and 19, from Kulai had also threatened the two SAJ staff members with a hoe.

In a video of the alleged incident circulating online, the men removed the staff member's helmet, punched his head and kicked him in the torso.

The men, who were dressed only in shorts, were also heard telling the SAJ staff to reinstate the water supply because "(his) mother has gone to pay the bill".

They also heckled the staff members for being "kids" and threatened to "smash their heads".

Johor police chief Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said the SAJ staff members sustained "soft tissue injury".

"The suspects attacked the complainant and his friend using their hands and a helmet," he said in a statement.

The suspects were arrested at about 2am at Jalan Indahputra and Kampung Melayu in Kulai, respectively.

The case is investigated under Section 323 and 506 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation.

In response to the viral video, netizens have produced memes featuring the hoe-wielding man in various comical situations. The man is referred to as 'Hang Cangkul'.

He is superimposed in the middle of a golf course, a football pitch, fleeing stampeding animals, facing off with Ultraman and dancing on stage, among others.

One meme is fashioned like a poster for a telenovela named 'Suamiku Si Tukang Cangkul' (My husband, the digger).
