  • Three 16-year-old male students were arrested yesterday to assist investigations into the death of a Form Four girl, whose body was found in a school hall in Yong Peng.

The suspects, who attend the same school as the victim, were detained several hours after the girl’s body was discovered at about 5.30pm, the New Straits Times reported.

The report quoted an unnamed source saying that one of the suspects is expected to be brought to the Batu Pahat Magistrate’s Court this morning for a remand order.

The case is being investigated as murder.

Early this morning, Harian Metro reported that the girl's body was found by her grandmother, who went to the school after realising that her granddaughter had not returned home.

  • Indera Mahkota MP Saifuddin Abdullah urged Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek to brief the Dewan Rakyat on student safety in schools, following the girl’s death.

In a statement, Saifuddin expressed sadness over the incident and extended his condolences to the victim’s family, adding that student safety in schools had become increasingly worrying and unacceptable.

He urged the minister to provide the briefing tomorrow (Oct 5), immediately after the oral question-and-answer session, saying the public had a right to receive immediate answers.
