We cannot 'move on' over 1MDB until justice is served

YOURSAY | 'Other countries are going after the crooks, Malaysia is pretending nothing happened.'

M'sia must 'move on' from 1MDB scandal, says Mustapa Mohamed

Sherlock: Just what do you mean "move on", International Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamed? You may not be personally affected by this 1MDB, but we, the rakyat, are suffering. It is so conveniently easy for you to say "Just move on".

It goes to show your irresponsibility. You are nonsensical.

Pemerhati Bebas: "We have the authorities to go after those responsible for creating the mess. The law is taking its course."

And yet, until today, the person who "mistakenly" transferred the RM42 million from SRC international into MO1's private account has not been identified, nor apprehended. Do that first before talking about moving on.

Lone_star: Move on. Go tell it to the marines. You agree that it is a scandal, it involves top government people and it has caused international embarrassment, but yet you say to move on. It just does not compute.

True Colors: How to move on when justice has not been served? The country has been raped and robbed, and we are asked to move on. What a sick joke.

GI Joe: What? Move on? This is just the beginning. So much interesting evidence have surfaced, with new convictions in Singapore, Switzerland and probably in Australia soon. Malaysia's conviction coming soon? Not over yet until 1MDB Audit Report is out.

Eagle: For Mustapa to say the authorities will go after those responsible gives the impression we are going after the crooks. This is a blatant lie. Other countries are going after the crooks, Malaysia is pretending nothing has happened.

Mustapa is trying to bluff the foreigners and this is shocking because all along he looks like one of the more honest fellows. Why would Mustapa lie? It baffles me.

Oscar Kilo: "We have the authorities to go after those responsible for creating the mess. The law is taking its course." Yes, the law is taking its course, everywhere except in Malaysia.

Anonymous_1421806811: Sorry Mustapa, you are wrong. Our political leaders have not learned a single lesson from the 1MDB fiasco.

"MO1" is still not brought to justice, the fat Chinese young mastermind playboy and his stupid Malay sidekick related to "MO1" are still spreading corruption on this earth and MO1's political leaders have become boot polishers.

If there is any lesson learned, it is that too much power has been concentrated on the PM, and all our institutions of check-and-balance have failed to protect the ordinary Malaysians.

All we have learned is that there is no political will, integrity and responsibility among our ruling elite to remove corrupt leaders, and Mustapa - you are also one of them. No Mustapa, we cannot move on until justice is served.

Alicescat: Yes I agree that we must "move on". But here is the real kicker: until and unless the Malaysian authorities apprehend the man behind the 1MDB fiasco and all his beneficiaries, we can never move forward.

Versey: As far as the minster's saying that "We have the authorities to go after those responsible for creating the mess. The law is taking its course."

The world only sees the authorities he mentioned go after the cartoonist, the students who wanted to catch the thieves, Bersih leader Maria Chin, etc, but not those names mentioned in the US Department of Justice (DOJ) legal suit.

Did he mean it's not those involved in the 1MDB scam "creating the mess", but it's those who truly wanted to see that proper law will be taken against the fraudsters who were the creators of the mess?

Vijay47: Your wisdom is showing, Mustapa Mohamed. We as a nation cannot remain shackled to sorry issues that may disappoint and distress, we have to move on to the limitless possibilities the future holds for us. But before we discard 1MDB to seek an even better tomorrow, there are a few annoying details we must clear.

First, before all else, the RM2.6 billion has to be returned to us Malaysians, the true and only owners of the money.

Then, the entire scheme has to be unravelled and revealed, explaining not only the criminal actions carried out but also the many players who hatched the plot and executed it.

And finally, the best part, all those involved in this traitorous exercise, from the ones holding humble positions to those at premier levels, and including the persons who obstructed the course of justice, should be charged, tried, and if found guilty, given appropriate punishment. At that point, Mustapa, we would all gladly move on.

Those at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, must have been laughing their heads off at Mustapa's statement.

Ahbengkia: What nonsense are you talking about - move on? Move on to where? This is the mother of all problems that tanked our ringgit and caused us misery and you are asking us to move on?

Why are you people so stupid and blatant? The same thing is happening in Felda - oh, there are leakages, we will sell some assets to raise cash. What nonsense again, no lessons learned and no responsibility accounted for?

Ace: Why don't you ask the cabinet and Inland Revenue Board to "move on" and exempt us from paying tax for the next five years?

Anonymous #00830595: Move on when billions of ringgit have not been accounted for? The most irresponsible answer ever! No wonder, the ruling coalition has been struggling to get support over the past eight years, with remarks that are most unbecoming.

Shovelnose: After you guys have been dethroned and all the main players are behind bars, yes, I believe we will move on.

Clongviews: Mustapa, it is easy for you to say "move on". What about "move out"? Look at so many scandals around you - 1MDB, SRC, Mara, Felda, high-profile corruption cases in Sabah, ministries, Altantuya Shaariibuu’s murder, the MH370 tragedy and some more. It is a joke reporting high profile cases to the toothless authorities. Shameless talking to the foreign press.

Quigonbond: Mustapa is missing the point. It's not just lessons learnt. And for Malaysia, lessons are never well learnt because corruption scandals keep repeating themselves, each at a larger scale than before.

When there is serious allegation of conspiracy to embezzle money at the highest levels of governance, to restore trust in the government, there has to be, at the very least, a change of leadership, if not change of government.

Sweeping grand corruption under the carpet is an invitation for more lawlessness in the country, as everyone learns from the leader.
