PAS has warned that it will sever ties with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) if it joins Pakatan Harapan.

According to PAS deputy president Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah, PAS would cease negotiations with Bersatu if this happens.

"If that is the official stand of Bersatu, then it (our ties) is cut... No need for more negotiations. We (PAS) will walk alone.

"We will also no longer share a stage with Bersatu any further, as that was the condition that we have set before," he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian in Kota Baru.

Mohd Amar was responding to Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad who yesterday confirmed that his party had agreed in principle to join Harapan.

However, the former premier also mentioned that Harapan's name should be changed while a new logo and manifesto should be created.

Bersatu has been courting PAS' support over the last few months, as it is vital with regard to securing Malay votes in the next general election.

Previously, Bersatu inked an electoral pact with Harapan.

PAS has stated that it would not work with DAP or Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah), which is a PAS splinter party.

The Islamic party has also stressed that those who wish to forge ties with it must respect PAS' stand on issues related to Islam, such as the move to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act (Act 355).
