Pakatan Harapan to register with ROS; teachers get show-cause letters

KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Pakatan Harapan to register with ROS

Pakatan Harapan has resolved to register the coalition with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) following the incorporation of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) into the opposition pact as full member.

An article published in the PAS organ Harakah Daily questioned whether Dr Mahathir Mohamad's actions are designed to benefit Umno and BN instead of the opposition, likening him to the infamous Spartan ruse of war - the Trojan Horse.

However, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang believes it is PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang who seems to be the one with hidden motivations, arguing that the Islamic party leader appeared to be more keen on saving Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak than looking after Malaysia's fate.

Teachers get show-cause letters

Five teachers have been slapped with show-cause letters for sharing the stage with the opposition and criticising the government in an excessive manner, Education Minister Mahdzir Khalid said in a Facebook posting.

Amanah's Kota Raja MP Siti Mariah Mahmud blasted Mahdzir for telling teachers who actively promote the opposition or discredit the government to resign from the civil service, adding that teachers have every right to support a political party that can improve their working conditions, even if it is in the opposition.

More Kinibites

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has identified the individual who tried to offer the Johor ruler, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, RM2 million for the purchase of a 'Tan Sri' title, and will investigate the matter.

The Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) confirmed that three more Malaysian nationals, who were kidnapped by Abu Sayyaf terrorists in waters off Lahad Datu last year, have been rescued by Filipino security forces.

PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli today urged Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Abdul Rahman Dahlan to clarify his exact role in salvaging the US$7 billion (RM31 billion) deal between Petronas and Saudi Aramco.

Najib said the concept of 'wasatiyyah' or moderation has been proposed to be incorporated in the school and university curricula to raise understanding of the concept.

Looking ahead

The MACC's advisory board will be holding a press conference on an undisclosed matter.
