MUKTAMAR | PAS Youth have cited a concert by US pop singer Selena Gomez, as a reason why political ties with PKR must be severed.

Shah Alam PAS Youth delegate Aubidullah Fahim Ibrahim said this was an example of how PKR was not committed to strengthening Islam.

"PKR in Selangor and the menteri besar (Azmin Ali) are not committed enough to strengthen Islam.

"For example, how they were excited to hold the Selena Gomez concert, disregarding views from PAS, Muslims, and Muslim NGOs," Aubidullah (photo) said at the PAS Youth muktamar in Kedah today.

PAS had protested a concert held by Gomez in Shah Alam in July last year, claiming the singer was too sexy.

Speaking in support of a motion to call for ties with PKR to be severed, the Selangor delegate said that commitment to strengthen Islam was among the conditions set for cooperation between PAS and PKR.

The motion was passed unanimously.

Another reason to sever ties with PKR, as cited by Aubidullah, was how PKR was an opportunistic party, which would act without consulting others.

Earlier, Hulu Terengganu PAS Youth delegate Abdul Rahman Che Mat, who moved the motion, described the decision to cut ties as a "divorce" (cerai talak tiga).

Abdul Rahman said PKR had broken the terms of cooperation with PAS, as well as attacked the party's leadership.

"When they attack the Islamic party (PAS), then we cut ties with them," he said.

He also said that PKR had opened up PAS to attacks from enemies of Islam, although he did not elaborate further on this matter.

Yesterday the PAS Ulama wing had also unanimously approved a motion to sever ties with PKR.

However, the decision on whether to cut or maintain ties lies ultimately with PAS' syura council.
