China wanted to leverage on rescue deal

The China government reportedly wanted favours, including the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail project, in return for buying into the Bandar Malaysia project.

A consortium, including a Chinese company, which was supposed to but a 60 percent stake in Bandar Malaysia said it had made the necessary payments and disputed the government’s move to end the deal.

BN backbenchers were reportedly briefed that an important announcement on 1MDB would be made soon.

Rumours of regime change in Selangor

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak claimed the Selangor government was in an unstable state, while PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said a change of government in the state was a possibility.

Several state exco members, including from PAS, welcomed Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali at the airport in a bid to dispel claims of possible defections to bring down the state government.

Despite the speculations, analysts believe a collapse of the PKR-led Selangor government was unlikely.

Ampang PKR Youth chief Adam Rosly in a friendly fire incident, demanded PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli to reveal his sources of financing for his NGOs.

Rafizi responded by releasing a list of his NGOs’ income and expenditure as well as financial report filed with the Companies Commission of Malaysia.

Parking woes spiral into violence

The Penang City Council denied racism in its raid on illegal traders, some of whom responded by stealing the enforcer’s truck and filming a video accusing them of racism.

Civil society groups claimed a series of individuals going missing recently was a case of “enforced disappearances”.
