The Eric Chia case started with a big bang, and is now ending with a disturbing whimper. Right from the very beginning, few would have thought he would be convicted, for the stake of disclosing the truth could have been far too overwhelming.

Any more major anti-corruption fiascos in the pipeline?

Munti Dann: Eric Chia of Perwaja has been exonerated. Isn't this not as expected even before the prosecution took the stand many months ago?

The reason was seemingly obvious. A revelation of the truth would likely, if not inevitably, involve the names of some political extra-heavyweights. And to avoid unnecessary embarrassment to those behind the scenes, naturally the case would have to be dismissed. Such is the closely intertwined relationship between our judicial and political system.

This is precisely one of the numerous unwitting products of our 'guided' democracy.

PT Tan: Why focus on Eric Chia as if he was the one responsible for the Perwaja scandal. It was an Umno-led government that instituted a wholesale plunder of the nation's assets under the guise of Perwaja.

Eric Chia was the fall guy who was instructed to come in and help revive the company after everyone had completely run Perwaja to the ground. Why are all these earlier managers enjoying their fat pensions while Chia is paraded in a charade?

Be warned, future high flyers when you are asked to help sort out Umno's messes. Do we see the same play with Proton and also MAS?
