Finger-pointing at Anwar Ibrahim for starting party-hopping has reached its peak - the latest salvo came from the Land Below The Wind wherein lies Mt Kinabalu, the highest peak in the country.

Leaders of Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) in particular have never forgotten what the former deputy premier did to them 15 years ago. It is not a secret that Anwar almost single-handedly brought down the PBS government in 1994 via massive party-hopping.

To be fair to Anwar however, it is also believed that the task was carried out at the behest of then prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad who had never forgiven PBS for leaving the BN on the eve of the 1990 general election.

Yesterday, PBS vice-president Herbert Timbon Lagadan took a pot-shot at Anwar: “You are the one who started the ‘frog hopping’ culture”.

Without mincing his words, Herbet charged that “it was well known Anwar was the mastermind of the downfall of the PBS government in 1994.

"I wish to remind Anwar that he is reaping what he had sown in 1994. He was the one who started the 'frog hopping culture' in politics and caused the downfall of PBS government 15 years ago 'by hook or by crook'," he said.

perak bn takeover crisis 050209 anwar and nizar Herbert who is also a state assistant minister told the Daily Express in Kota Kinabalu that the opposition leader was being hypocritical when asked to comment on Anwar's statement over the political crisis in Perak.

On Thursday, Anwar told AFP that Perak must go back to the people and get fresh mandate. He said the BN is trying the form the state government in Perak by hook or by crook - more by crook.

Herbert said Anwar should accept what is happening in Perak politics graciously and gentlemanly.

"Today in Perak, he (Anwar) is reaping the fruit of his own making 15 years back."

"It is true that whatever a man sown he must reap and he must accept the current political situation in Perak with open heart," he said.

Don't linger in the past

Meanwhile, the Daily Express also reported a call by deputy state speaker Johnny Mositun to the people not to indulge in too much politicking but stay focus in providing solid support to the government.

He said it was imperative for them to stay focus following the present political scenario elsewhere in the country.

He added that no doubt the present situation in Perak was a reminiscence of what had happened in 1994 but that the people should not linger in the past but must now focus towards a better future.

"We have to continue playing our role that is to provide political stability in Sabah so that Sabah can see greater progress and move to a higher pedestal in terms of developments," he said.

Commenting on the call by Upko president Bernard Dompok to give ‘political frogs’ a chance for a fresh election basically to see if the voters approve the move, Mositun responded: "I think he made the proposal for reason best known to him".

Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud also lambasted Anwar Ibrahim last week, saying that the opposition leader was the one involved in ‘hijack politics’ when making the Sept 16 pledge to take over the federal government.
