'What are police trying to prove?'

your say ‘I do not understand why the police, which is controlled by Umno, should waste my money and the rakyat `s money in using water cannons to disperse a crowd. What is the use of that?'

On Chemical-laced water sprayed on Uthaya's supporters

K Sudhagaran Stanley: Repeatedly, over and over again, the Polis Di Raja Malaysia seem to be creating and provoking chaos whenever there is a peaceful assembly or protest.

I strongly condemn the use of violence against the peaceful protesters of Makkal Sakthi when they wanted to lodge police reports against the Umno-led government for failing to look into the healthcare of P Uthayakumar.

I do not understand why the police, which is controlled by Umno, should waste my money and the rakyat `s money in using water cannon`s to disperse a crowd. What is the use of that?

I also do not understand why the water cannons were not used on Umno protesters recently when they protested against MP Karpal Singh in front of his office.

Are the police practicing different standards? The right to assembly and freedom of expression is for all.

The protesters were there only to lodge reports, but they were denied this right and chased away with water cannons and fully armed police personnel. What are the police trying to prove?

I also strongly condemn the police for humiliating and having no respect for members of Parliament. These people are elected representatives of the rakyat .

The members of parliment were there to voice out for the people but ended up being fired upon by water cannons and the arrested.

What a shame this is for Malaysia. The ISA seems to be the shield and a defence tool of the Umno government to use against its ‘enemies'.

Well, the time for Umno and BN to fall is on its way. With God`s will, there seem to be many by-elections happening after the GE 08. Umno will face defeat in the coming by- elections. They will also be wiped out completely in the next general elections.

Anak Bangsa Malaysia: The bottom line is that the OCPD and MP S Manikavasagam made a deal - 50 people to enter the police station, 10 police reports to be made.

The rest of the 400 plus supporters to stand outside and make sure the roads are not blocked.

But the OCPD changed his mind and not enough time was given to warn the already settled crowd. So chaos and madness.

It would have been a smooth and successful day for the civil rights movement and good police sense.

Unfortunately, the OCPD gave up this opportunity and once again chose what looked like double standard and marginalisation policing.

The OCPD better have a good explanation for going back on his word and the swift order to activate the FRU.

Daniel Chong: The police are a disgrace to all decent rakyat . They are so efficient and speedy when dealing with opposition demonstrations but when come to BN demos, they are useless in handling them.

When come to collecting intelligence on the opposition they're so efficient but they did not even smell a rat before the bunch of Umno thugs went on rampage inside Parliament recently.

They were so efficient in stopping opposition members from approaching Parliament just to hand over a memo.

They were so efficient in preventing the opposition from approaching the palace to hand in a memo to the king.

They were so efficient in spraying chemically-laced water on some people who just wanted to lodge police reports in front of the Brickfields police station.

But when it comes to protecting innocent people, they are not so efficient.

They are so efficient when it comes to protecting Umno's interests - as if they are being paid by them. They are more pro-Umno than being a neutral force.

It is time to set up the IPCMC to overhaul the entire deadwood system.

Malayamuda: The police say that they will only take action against Umno Youth when they get an official police report on the incident at Parliament,

So why did police so swiftly take action against these Hindraf sympathisers wanting to make police reports at the Brickfields police station?

Did they receive an official police report that Hindraf was gathering outside the police station ?

The police are supposed to protect the rakyat and country and not their political masters. Instead, in Malaysia the police are subservient to Umno.

The police should join BN as a component party together with the judiciary, the AG's chambers, and the Election Commission since they all play politics instead of fulfilling their responsibilities.

On ' OK for Umno to rally, not Hindraf'

Raja: Yes Malaysia boleh . Our police can practice double standards because when they are under the BN government, anything boleh .

Six Indians were gunned down, police boleh . Kugan killed in police custody, police boleh . An Indian man splashed with boiling water in police custody, police boleh .

If you under Barisan, semua boleh . Police brutality against Indians is allowable under the Barisan Nasional government. Malaysia boleh .

On YourSay: Karpal's mobbing 'an act of cowards'

Paul C: To the Umno Youth members concerned: As a Chinese Malaysian, I hope you can take heed of the advice by Mohd Arshad Raji in the report above.

I believe there are ample civil approaches that you can use against Karpal besides resorting to mob rule. The worst you can do is to call him ‘ Karpal celaka '.

In today's world, you will only win genuine respect through your civil behaviour and your respect for rule of law. You have condemned Bush for his reckless and uncivil acts in West Asia and I am sure you won't want to be seen like a Bush by your fellow Malaysians.

Threats or use of force may silence your weaker opponent for a while but will create hatred and vengeful desire that will last a very long time.

I am sure if you can display the kind of behaviour as advised by Arshad, Umno will certainly win more votes but more than that, respect that comes from the bottom of the people's hearts.

There have been enough laws of the jungle and all of them failed in one way or another simply because they couldn't win the hearts of the people.

Let's work together to make Malaysia a great nation, respected by the world for our economic development, our generosity and our civil society.

Rocky: Why are the PM, DPM and others so quiet about the behaviour of Umno Youth at Parliament?

When a small girl when to Parliament to celebrate her birthday there and submit a memo, there was so much hue and cry from all including the PM.

And now, there is a violent act but because it is by Umno Youth, they all remain very silent. What is this?

Double standards all the way and it just shows what kind of leaders we have.

Can't the Umno Youth chief and his deputy as well all the Umno MPs articulate their defence in Parliament?

Do they need 20 and more Umno Youth members to turn up in parliament to scream and yell and get physical?

It just shows how bereft Umno is of ideas and that Umno will do anything in Malaysia and get away with it as the police seem to have a ‘close both eyes' syndrome.

The behaviour of this Umno thugs just shows the word used by Karpal is justified.
