YourSay: Karpal's mobbing 'an act of cowards'

your say ‘Had my son been a party to that incident where Umno Youth members caused a ruckus in Parliament, he would have got a tight slap from me.'

On 'Singh is King' mobbed, MP claims assault

Mohd Arshad Raji:

Thuggery and low down scum. These are the only words to describe those Umno Youth members that had caused a ruckus in Parliament recently to protest against Karpal Singh (for whatever reason).

Had my son been a party to the incident, he would have got a tight slap from me. Even if they had so much hatred for Karpal, they had no right to take the law into their own hands and do something that might physically hurt Karpal.

What can a crippled person do to defend himself. Nothing, virtually nothing. This is an act of cowards. Is this what Umno teaches you to do? Certainly your elders did not teach you to behave like this, did they?

You have the courts to seek justice. Go there with your lawyers and lodge a case against Karpal. This will be the most civilised thing to do.

As a Malay, we ought to be ashamed at what Umno Youth had done. It has only brought disrepute to the Malay race and religion. If Umno Youth feels strongly that they need to be bloody, please go to Palestine or Afghanistan. Our Muslim brothers there will certainly welcome you.

We are surprised that the security guards at parliament did nothing to prevent this incident. They had tarnished the sanity of the august house and smeared the good name of the country. Is this the democracy and tolerance that Umno preaches?

Never mind if Karpal is a Sikh or whatever. He still has his civil rights as a Malaysian citizen; just like anyone of us and that includes Umno Youth. These are things that Umno seemed not to have learnt.

I am quite sure the Indian community (Sikhs included) are angry, and I am absolutely certain that more Indian/Sikh votes are lost by this stupid incident.

Let us be civil and respectful of the freedom and liberties of individuals. Just because Karpal is judged to be kurang ajar or call him by whatever name, he does not deserve to be roughed up. Please allow the rule of law to prevail; not the rule of the jungle.

Non-Umno Member: Umno doesn't represent the total Malay population in Malaysia, they are just representing their five million Umno members (according to RPK). Out of a 15 million Malay population, they are just only one-third.

Can this one-third represent the whole Malay population? Out of a 25 million total population in Malaysia, they are just only 20%.

In fact, Umno could be a minority party if every non-Umno Malaysian doesn't vote them, everyone marginalises them and kicks them out from the Parliament. Why is our country being fully controlled by this 20% of the population?

Even the authorities are fully-controlled by them. Our country's economy and assets have all been manipulated by this 20% of the population. They play havoc with many issues.

The recent incident of Karpal Singh and Umno Youth in Parliament shows how stupid and bias the authorities are. If those people were Hindraf members, they wouldn't even have been allowed to come to the gates of Parliament let alone inside.

To all anak Malaysia , please kick this group of people out. Never give them a chance.

A Concerned Rakyat: Police says they will investigate when a report is made against Umno Youth on their action within the confines of Parliament's grounds. Why must they wait for a report?

Did Umno Youth have a police permit to gather as their number equaled an illegal gathering. After all, when NGOs hold peaceful candlelight vigils, they are arrested for staging an illegal gathering.

IGP and PM, please respond.

Edison Wong: I don't know Karpal Singh and have never participated in politics, but I find Umno's behavior extremely revolting - are they trying to create racial chaos? Thank the Divine that most Malaysians are level headed; be they Malays, Indians or Chinese.

Karpal ought to be a Tan Sri by now taking into account his contributions to our beloved country since 1978. He has endured everything unimaginable thrown at him through the years and he has never given up.

At his age, and with his resources, he can be having a most luxurious life free from worries. He doesn't need all this nonsense they're throwing at him. He's still caring for our young nation.

YB, you're our hero, our unsung hero and I honour you and deeply respect you. In years to come, when you are gone and the savages are returned to their rightful place, your legacy will live on.

Thank you for your contributions to Malaysia.

So Letek: I think the Umno Youth is digging the grave for Umno. I think none of those in BN ( Buaya Negara ) ever believe in fairness but only in self-interest.

They think they can fool the people openly.. Don't ever think we Malaysians are as stupid as what you all think.

As the government, you simply cannot act according to your own wishes. Beware, your time will come one day and instead it will be Pakatan's turn to run the country.

So Malaysian voters, please never forget what they, BN, have done to us. Teach them a proper lesson when the day comes.

Safety Conscious:

Regrettably, my fear about safety of persons and property in the august house has come true. I had an opportunity to go to the Parliament house in December 2008.

As I drove up to the main entrance gate, there were three police personnel with sub-machine guns (I think) minding the entrance to Parliament. I was stopped and asked about my business in Parliament.

When I asked them whether I should register myself with them, they told me that I would have to enter the Parliament house and surrender my IC to the security personnel inside the Parliament building.

As I was driving off from the check point, I noticed another police personnel checking the boot content of another car behind mine. When I arrived at the Parliament building, I had to surrender my identity card to the security personnel inside Parliament and I was given a visitor's pass.

What caught my attention was that the security personnel managing security in Parliament were not from the police force but were merely civilians. As I was walking up the stairs, I chatted with one of the security personnel.

I asked him ‘ Encik anggota polis ke?' He responded by saying ‘Tak de la, saya orang biasa je kerja kat sini '. It dawned upon me then that civilians were looking after the security of visitors and VIPs in Parliament .

I also began to wonder whether these civilian security personnel working in Parliament have had the necessary training to handle crisis situations like what had just happened to Karpal Singh. I'm certain that if the police personnel were in charge, the untoward incident could have ben prevented.

Such an ugly incident would never have taken place. I remember reading in the papers that many groups have gone to the Parliament building and have caused commotions in the building.

Isn't Parliament supposed to be the most secured institution where our elected representatives can carry out their function as law-makers with peace of mind when it comes to their safety?

What if there was a hostage situation? Can we trust these civilians to look after our elected representatives? These personnel carry no handcuffs and have no powers of arrest like the police.

Now, with the speaker stepping in, I hope real security with a real police presence can be established in Parliament to ensure the safety and peace of mind of our wakil rakyat .

Bosco Anthony: Umno Youth, by your act and conduct against Karpal Singh at the lobby of

Parliament house, you have clearly demonstrated that your uncalled for behaviour is completely harmonious with the label he gave you.

Nik V: To Karpal's credit, I think that was one of the funniest and most apt description of a potentially dangerous fledgling politician like Khairy.

Khairy and Khir remind me of the days when I was in school where you get these one or two classroom bullies - who with their gang of followers - bully their classmates into submission to feel powerful.

There are only three ways to rid the classroom of these juvenile bullies. One, they actually grow up and become good people or two, the classroom stands against them.

Three, they inevitably implode and destroy themselves and people around them sooner or later in their later years.

Tee Ka Foo: Just wondering about the current situation. I feel that is somehow similar to 1930s Germany.

They used of mobs and gangsters to enforce the government's will and cracked down on civil protest using heavy-handed methods.

Is this what we are becoming?

On Would you like being called 'celaka Singh'?

Clement @ Sulaiman: For the growth of knowledge of Reezal Merican Naina Merican:

What Karpal Singh said in the dewan calling Umno Youth celaka , was (I must agree) rude.

However, was he right to call you bunch celaka ?

Turns out, you manifested his statement by acting it out. So Reezal Merican Naina Merican, was he out of line?
