The assets of Selangor's 10 executive councillors, including Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim, will be made public this week.

However, only the assets accumulated after the exco members assumed the helm of the state administration will be revealed. Assets obtained before the takeover of power last year will not be made public.

sultan selangor and selangor state exco Confirming this, Khalid's press secretary Arfa'eza Aziz today said the information will be available on the state's official website .

"The matter has been discussed and approved by the exco. Now there are only the technicalities of putting this information on the website," she told Malaysiakini .

Khalid and the exco members have already submitted their asset declaration forms to the state secretary.

The Declaration of Family Income and Asset Bill was proposed by Selangor State Assembly speaker Teng Chang Khim in 2007.

teng chang khim Teng defined 'income' as salaries, business profits, interest, pensions, rent and other sources of income, while 'assets' included fixed assets and all financial assets.

Meanwhile, Parti Sosialis Malaysia will hold a 'declaration of assets function' at the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday for its two elected representatives and three local councillors.

Apart from this, the party will also present a performance report of its sole member of parliament Dr D Jeyakumar (Sungai Siput) and Selangor assemblyperson Dr Nasir Hahsim (Damansara).

Sultan calls for unity

In his royal address at the opening of the second session of the 12th legislative assembly this morning, Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah expressed confidence that the state government would be able to make public the information soon, in line with efforts to make the state an example of good governance.

sultan selangor sharafuddin idris shah 210508 Sultan Sharafuddin also noted that national harmony had recently been rocked by street demonstrations and feuds between different communities, and urged everyone to avoid such acts and instead focus on fostering unity among the different races in the country.

"I call upon all parties, especially the people of Selangor, to observe the Federal Constitution, state laws, as well as the laws of the nation.

"Do not misinterpret these laws so as to benefit certain groups. We need to honour these laws above all individual and political gains," he said.

"I am confident that we will continue to savour peace, harmony and prosperity if we are able to adhere to these laws as well as practice racial tolerance".

In addition to this, he urged state assemblypersons to adhere to the Standing Orders of the state assembly and be courteous to one another regardless of political ideology.

He also thanked all civil servants, including military personnel, the police and the fire and rescue department, who work hard to ensure the progress, harmony and safety of the people of Selangor.
