Malaysians encouraged to share prosperity with the less fortunate while savouring Prosperity Meals with family and friends

Petaling Jaya, 9 January 2014

– McDonald’s ‘Prosperity Gives Back’ Campaign, which aims to bring Malaysians together from all walks of life for a charitable cause, has returned for its fourth consecutive year. This year, RM1 from every Prosperity Meal sold on the 18 th and 19 th January at McDonald’s restaurants, will be donated to 70 Malaysian charity homes.

In addition to the Prosperity Gives Back Weekend, McDonald’s will be donating a total of RM82,000 to local charity homes. This will be achieved with a consumer engagement at selected McDonald’s stores. Radio cruisers have started visiting selected McDonald’s locations nationwide and will do so till 17 January 2014. Those who purchase 2 Prosperity Meals or more in a single receipt and correctly answer questions given by the visiting radio cruisers will receive a Prosperity Gift Packet containing promise notes, which can later be redeemed for cash. A total of RM82,000 worth of Prosperity Gift Packets is up for grabs. For every RM1 won by the public, McDonald’s will donate RM1 to the same charity homes – this means that – the more people participate in the activity, the more the charity homes will receive. Those keen to participate can view the radio cruisers’ schedule of appearance at these locations on www.mcdonalds.com.my .

Another component of McDonald’s ‘Prosperity Gives Back’ Campaign encourages Malaysians to post creative and witty messages on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to family, friends and loved ones, describing why he or she would like to share a Prosperity meal with the recipient of the message. The message should include a hashtag #prosperitytogether and be posted between now till 5 th February 2014. Participants will be able to view the messages at a dedicated site, www.prosperitytogether.com.my . The best message received stands to win a special surprise from McDonald’s Malaysia.

“McDonald’s has always been committed to caring for those in need and this is well exemplified with the ‘Prosperity Gives Back’ campaign, which is now in its fourth year. Through this campaign, we invite all Malaysians to join McDonald’s in sharing prosperity with the less fortunate. We hope that our contribution will benefit the 70 local charities we have identified for this year’s campaign and make life better for the underprivileged,” said Stephen Chew, Managing Director of McDonald’s Malaysia.

This year’s Prosperity Gives Back (PGB) revolves around the theme of “Prosperity Together”, which is based on a universal truth: individuals and communities are able to unite, change lives and create a better future for the disadvantaged. The annual PGB campaign seeks to not only enable Malaysians to aid the underprivileged but also encourage them to start 2014 positively by reconnecting with friends, family and loved ones over a Prosperity Meal.
