Pahang: Residents in Kampung Insaf, Lanchang were devastated that their homes were destroyed by the muddy flash flood. A total of 17 families living in the village can now only see damages to all of their household properties.

One of the two houses that had just been repaired through the allocation of the State Assemblyman's Office (ADN) was also washed away by the flood water while the low-rise houses collapsed. In addition, there are a total of 4 families in the area who are no longer able to occupy their homes.

One of the flood victim from Kampung Insaf, Zulkiflee Muhammad, said the flood in the area occurred after 3 days of continuous rain. Although the area had experienced flooding problems at the beginning of last year, the water then was not as muddy compared to this time.

The Government provided assistance quickly

According to Arman bin Muhammad Jaffar, the government has provided assistance quickly this time. Before the residents moved to the settlement to clean their houses, the government had already come forward to help them in terms of cleaning, providing food, and other necessities.

All of the victims were given assistance within 10 days, in which the federal government provided a contribution of RM 1000 while the state government provided RM 500 along with mattresses, kitchen appliances and electrical equipment. Although the amount of donations given could not accommodate all the losses they have suffered, they are truly grateful for the donations they have received.

The majority of the villagers hope that the government bodies can help them to get new settlements to ensure their safety and livelihood in the future.

Apart from the government assistance, there are also NGOs and other individuals who came down to help. Residents in the village also said that the Jabatan Kerja Raya Melaka had also assisted them in installing electrical wiring and new bulbs within a day in the area. This effort is to ease the burden of victims to carry out their daily routine at their homes.
