In response to the urgent call for blood supply from the National Blood Centre (“Pusat Darah Negara” or “PDN”), KPJ Healthcare Berhad (“KPJ Healthcare” or “the Group”) has taken immediate action by expanding its blood donation drive from a hospital-level initiative to a Group-wide effort.

Amid growing media reports highlighting the critical need for a steady blood supply to support surgeries, trauma care and other essential treatments, KPJ Healthcare’s blood donation campaign, organised in collaboration with PDN, has garnered encouraging support from both employees and the public.
KPJ Healthcare successfully held a blood donation drive at its headquarters in Menara KPJ, Jalan Tun Razak, yesterday. The event saw employees and the public, including President and Managing Director of KPJ Healthcare, Chin Keat Chyuan and the Group’s senior management team, participating in the event.
Yesterday’s programme was in addition to an earlier blood donation drive held in several hospitals, including KPJ Selangor, KPJ Klang, KPJ Pahang, KPJ Perdana, KPJ Ipoh and KPJ Kuching. Overall, the Group had collectively contributed over 370 pints of blood.

The campaign will continue with upcoming blood donation drives at KPJ Bandar Dato’ Onn and KPJ Penang on 13 March, KPJ Kajang on 16 June, KPJ Sabah on 18 March and KPJ Puteri on 28 June.
Chin Keat Chyuan, President and Managing Director of KPJ Healthcare Berhad said, "We are grateful for the tremendous support from our employees and the public. At KPJ Healthcare, our Care for Life values drive us to contribute meaningfully to society. Through this blood donation drive, we not only helped replenish the national blood supply but also encouraged more people to step forward and donate. The commitment shown today reflects our dedication to making a real difference in people’s lives, and we hope this initiative inspires more Malaysians to become regular blood donors."
“A sustainable blood supply is essential for patient care and collective efforts like this play an important role in maintaining reserves. We appreciate KPJ Healthcare’s initiative in organising this campaign and encourage more organisations to step forward, as regular blood donation remains crucial in meeting patient needs,” said Dr. Mohammad Masrin bin Md Zahrin, Director, National Blood Centre.

According to the World Health Organization (“WHO”), one pint of donated blood can be separated into red blood cells, platelets and plasma, potentially saving up to three lives. Maintaining a steady blood supply is crucial, as hospitals rely on continuous donations to meet patient needs. Based on estimates from PDN, Malaysia requires an average of 2,000 blood bags daily to support patients undergoing surgeries, trauma care and critical medical treatments. Regular blood donations play a vital role in ensuring hospitals have sufficient supply to respond to both routine and emergency cases.
