Tech Meets Purpose: Taiwan Expo 2025 Highlights Smart Innovation and AI in KL

A fusion of technology, tradition, and collaboration took center stage recently as Taiwan Expo 2025 in Malaysia officially opened its doors at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

Organised by the International Trade Administration and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), Taiwan Expo 2025 brings together over 200 leading Taiwanese companies and runs until 25 June — spotlighting everything from AI breakthroughs and smart lifestyle innovations to health, sustainability, and cultural experiences.

This year’s event marks the 8th outing for Taiwan Expo in Malaysia and AI innovation is the biggest highlight of the event. A total of 32 leading AI firms from Taiwan are showcasing their range of products and solutions including smart manufacturing, medical technologies, cybersecurity, finance, and education services.

The expo officially opened with a symbolic launch led by TAITRA President & CEO Simon Wang and Selangor State EXCO YB Ng Sze Han, who unveiled a blended emblem featuring Malaysia’s iconic Wau Bulan and Taiwan’s butterfly — a vibrant expression of cross-cultural partnership.

“Taiwan’s strength in research and Malaysia’s capabilities in advanced manufacturing—especially in Penang—are already powering industries across the globe. Now, we have a chance to build even more ambitious partnerships. Both Taiwan and Malaysia are evolving—Taiwan by expanding into smart, application-driven platforms, and Malaysia by reinforcing its role as a digital leader with bold investments and growing regional influence,” said Simon Wang.

“Taiwan–Malaysia economic ties are stronger than ever. Just last year, our bilateral trade reached a record high of over USD 39 billion — a 38.5% growth from 2023. Taiwan now stands as Malaysia’s fourth-largest trading partner. These figures reflect not only economic momentum, but also mutual confidence and long-term partnership,” said Phoebe Yeh, Representative of the Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in Malaysia.

YBhg Tan Sri Dato' Soh Thian Lai remarked that the exhibition has many forward-looking contents that the local industry should find interesting and the focus of Taiwan Expo is highly in sync with the development direction of Malaysia’s manufacturing industry and serves as an important platform for promoting technological exchanges and industrial advancements.

Key exhibits include Phison’s latest AI driven data storage technology; mechanical skin that mimics the human touch response by Touché Solutions; V5med and DeepXray’s AI-assisted lung cancer and osteoporosis screening systems; as well as AI-driven cybersecurity and education solutions from ThinkCloud and NUWA Robotics — among many other innovative highlights. A special guided tour service by the Collibot Robot will also be available and visitors can experience real-life applications of Taiwan’s AI technology.

The Pavilion is anchored by two core themes: Smart Technology and Sustainability. These themes not only highlight Taipei's industrial innovation but also serve as one of the event's premier attraction.

The Pavilion features a wide range of Al-powered and eco-friendly technologies. Key innovations include: New Smart Technology's Al inspection and edge computing systems tailored for the automotive, semiconductor, and optics industries; Freedom Systems's managed cybersecurity services that boost business efficiency; and Netio Technologies's Al-driven industrial IloT solutions designed to accelerate digital transformation for enterprises.

See how next-gen AI and vision systems are tackling real-world challenges

“We designed Vigil-X with one goal in mind—redefining fall detection for the aging population. Unlike traditional cameras or wearables, Vigil-X is completely non-contact and privacy-preserving, thanks to our edge AI processing and vision sensors. It’s already proving its value in Taiwan’s long-term care facilities, where caregivers have seen quicker response times and fewer false alarms. As we explore the Malaysian market, we’re excited to collaborate with care facilities and government-backed health initiatives to support aging-in-place with smarter, safer solutions,” said Peggy, Product Manager at YUN-X Tek.

At the expo, Phil Chen, President of New Smart Technology Co. (NSTC), unveiled the company’s latest innovation—a thermal imaging and AI recognition system designed to perform in even the most challenging conditions, from glaring sunlight and high-speed motion to complete darkness and dense fog. Powered by advanced optics and AI, NSTC’s solution delivers exceptional visibility and safety across diverse environments, including automotive, security, and industrial monitoring. It sees what the human eye cannot.

Taiwan Expo 2025 in Malaysia is held from now to 25th of June from 10am to 6pm daily at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) Hall 4 and 5. Admission is free. Hurry, this is your chance to witness what’s next and where collaboration meets invention!
