Tokyo–Malaysia Business Partnership Seminar 2025 highlights expanding bilateral opportunities

KUALA LUMPUR : The Tokyo Metropolitan Small and Medium Enterprise Support Center is inviting Malaysian businesses to explore opportunities in Tokyo through The Tokyo–Malaysia Business Partnership Seminar 2025 was successfully held on 10 December (Wednesday) from 12:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at The Ritz-Carlton, Kuala Lumpur. The event brought together senior corporate decision-makers, SME owners, government-linked organizations, and private-sector leaders from both countries to explore new avenues for strategic collaboration.

The seminar welcomed prominent VIPs and representatives from JAGAM, JETRO, MDEC, and SMECORP. Joining them were distinguished advisors from international organisations, including Mr. Asama and Mr. Nishizaki from Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu LLC, Mr. Kosuke Hiura, Group CEO of Phoenix Corporate Advisory USA, Singapore & Malaysia, Mr. Atsushi Ezawa, Managing Director of the Fortience Consulting Division, NTT DATA Malaysia Sdn Bhd, and Mr. Kazuki Ochiai, a Japan-qualified attorney from TMI Associates Japan.

The seminar focused on sharing guidance and practical information for doing business in Japan. On the day of the event, the organizers arranged seminar featured four key presentations that offered comprehensive insights into Tokyo’s evolving business landscape. The first session, presented by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu LLC, highlighted Tokyo’s investment environment, emerging industry trends, and the city’s expanding role as a leading innovation hub in Asia. This was followed by Mr. Mohd Rofizal Mustapa, Head of Global Market Access, Digital Exports (DEX) at MDEC, who spoke on market access facilitation for high-growth tech companies.

A dialogue session with Mr. Sean Tan, Founder & CEO of Crave Asia Sdn Bhd, offered attendees first-hand insights into establishing a startup presence in Tokyo. He shared practical experiences, regulatory considerations, and best practices for Malaysian businesses looking to enter the Japanese market. Mr. Tan emphasised that early market entry has enabled his company to build stronger networks, gain deeper market understanding, and strategically position itself for future global expansion.

The seminar underscores Tokyo’s commitment to supporting global entrepreneurship and strengthening long-term business partnerships between Malaysia and Japan. The initiative aims to further enhance economic collaboration, promote cross-border innovation, and create sustainable growth opportunities for companies in both markets.
