KUALA LUMPUR, 10 April 2026 – Maaedicare Charitable Foundation has achieved a remarkable milestone today, becoming Malaysia’s first dialysis provider to implement ultrasound-guided cannulation across its 11 charity dialysis centres – spanning from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu.

This pioneering initiative - made possible by a generous RM275,000 donation from THOR Specialties—brings advanced vein imaging technology to 750 predominantly low-income patients across Maaedicare's 11 centres, ensuring consistent world-class standards nationwide.

Malaysian Society of Nephrology President, Professor Dr. Lim Soo Kun, shared his strong support during the launch event, saying that the quality of cannulation directly influences whether patients experience improved lives or ongoing suffering – from fistula survival and dialysis effectiveness to pain management and overall clinical outcomes.

The Ultrasound-Guided Cannulation donation worth RM275,000 -
will be utilised at 11 of Maaedicare’s charity dialysis centres in the
country.

“Enhanced cannulation practices - powered by ultrasound guidance - protect patients' vital lifelines and preserve dignity in long-term dialysis care.

“Ultrasound guidance optimises this process through precise vessel visualisation, which boosts the clinical teams’ confidence, minimises repeated failed attempts, and protects vital vascular access. Maaedicare has not only innovated but established a blueprint that other providers across Malaysia should adopt,” he noted, adding that accompanying training protocols as essential for meaningful transformation.

He further explained that by providing real-time visualisation of vein depth, direction, and calibre before the first puncture, the technology dramatically reduces needle insertion failures, safeguards fragile arteriovenous fistulas (AVF), prolongs vascular access life, and eliminates the pain of repeated attempts during essential treatments.

Maaedicare Charitable Foundation Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Anne Rajasaikaran illustrated the profound human impact stressing that the donation represents a deeper transformative influence.

“Maaedicare is proud to be Malaysia's first nonprofit to bring ultrasound-guided cannulation to all 11 of our centres nationwide – transforming care from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu. Imagine a father on the 5am bus to dialysis, a mother missing her kids' school drop-off, or families returning session after session with quiet courage – this eases their burden, protects their access, and restores some dignity to treatment they can't escape.

“Therefore, the donation goes far beyond device distribution; it ends years of needless needle pain, fortifies patients’ precious fistulas against failure, and delivers surgical precision in care, coast to coast. Every patient now receives the dignified treatment they have fought so hard to endure,” she remarked.

Since its founding in 1994 – with the principled stance that "wealth should not dictate survival" – Maaedicare has emerged as Malaysia’s second-largest non-profit dialysis provider, having cared for more than 32,000 patients to date.

The launch also included live demonstrations by Maaedicare nurses, observed by Maaedicare’s Head of Operations Dr. Parathythasan Rajaandra and THOR’s Managing Director, Mr. Kiew Chee Heong

In alignment with World Kidney Day 2026’s theme "Kidney Health for All", Maaedicare demonstrates that nonprofits can lead the way in delivering accessible, high-quality care.
