Taiwan is a global leader in the semiconductor industry, boasting a comprehensive supply chain and specialised labour divisions. Ranked first in wafer manufacturing, packaging, and testing, and second in IC design, Taiwan offers unparalleled opportunities for those seeking a career in this dynamic field.

The projected output value of Taiwan's IC industry is expected to reach NT$5 trillion (USD 156.4 billion) in 2024, solidifying its position as the world's second-largest semiconductor supplier. Given its prominent standing, Taiwan offers an exceptional environment for international talent seeking opportunities in semiconductor research and employment.

A Magnet for International Talent

The government of Taiwan places high importance on the burgeoning semiconductor sector, by consistently refining visa, employment, and residency regulations to attract global professionals. Enhanced perks in insurance, taxation, and retirement, coupled with more flexible "dependent family member regulations," safeguard the educational entitlements of their children.

The country nurtures an optimal atmosphere for industry-academia partnerships, providing scholarships and living allowances for students completing master's or doctoral degrees who opt to pursue careers within its borders. This concerted effort is geared towards realising a seamless transition from academia to the professional realm, positioning Taiwan as not just a destination for work, but a second home for ambitious professionals.

Taiwan's Semiconductor Recruitment Initiative has yielded remarkable results

Over the past year, the Semiconductor Recruitment Team, an initiative led by the Industrial Development Administration (IDA, MOEA), has forged partnerships with 23 entities, including notable semiconductor firms and premier research institutes.

This collaborative effort has seen visits to 13 esteemed institutions across the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, and beyond, aimed at talent acquisition. With over 1000 students participating, the initiative has successfully recruited over 300 individuals to Taiwan. Many students expressed their satisfaction with the event and suggested that such talent acquisition activities should be held on a regular basis.
