ATEK Technology: Empowering Malaysia’s shift towards intelligent meeting environments

Malaysia’s shift towards hybrid work raised expectations for meeting rooms that are smarter, clearer and reliable. As organisations upgrade their audio, visual and connectivity needs, Atek Technology Sdn Bhd has emerged as one of the industry’s trusted names for integrated audiovisual and network solutions.

Founded in 2009 by Chong Siang in Petaling Jaya, Atek began as a dedicated distributor of video-conferencing equipment, building its roots through a strong network of partners and dealers before eventually engaging directly with end-users. Their core value is to provide the most accurate information, technology insights, and solutions to advance the client’s needs. But as meeting room requirements became increasingly intertwined with displays, speakers, cabling and network infrastructure, partners relied more heavily on Atek for technical guidance. What began as occasional troubleshooting gradually evolved into broader integration work.

Chong Siang explained that in the past, partners often requested Atek’s direct support when issues surfaced. Through these visits, the team realised that many problems originated not from the conferencing system itself, but from surrounding AV or network elements that required proper design and implementation.

By 2013, Atek had expanded its capabilities beyond video conferencing into full audiovisual, networking and infrastructure solutions. This shift positioned the company for larger projects and long-term collaborations across multiple sectors.

Building technical depth for a changing market

When the company recognised the growing complexity of workplace technology, it understood that its next phase of growth depended on a capable and well-trained team. Atek’s technical unit underwent continuous upskilling to keep pace with rapid shifts in AV and IT integration.

The firm sent engineers for manufacturer-certified training while conducting internal sessions that covered operational and administrative areas such as e-invoicing and project coordination. He shared that the investment not only strengthened team confidence but also assured clients that Atek could deliver consistently reliable, technically sound solutions.

The company’s commitment to its people was tested during the COVID-19 lockdowns. With onsite installations halted and revenue severely disrupted, Atek faced one of its hardest financial periods.

Yet it maintained full salaries for six to eight months rather than reducing headcount. He believed this preserved trust, loyalty and the spirit of the organisation. For Atek, developing people was not simply about surviving difficult periods. It was about building a strong foundation for future ambitions.

Industry recognition signals steady progress

Despite the perception among some that video conferencing had become a sunset sector, Atek observed the opposite. Meeting room hardware was becoming more intelligent, powered by AI-enabled cameras that tracked speakers automatically, improved audio systems and deeper integration across displays, networks and AV components.

“Platforms like Zoom or Teams were only part of the experience. Clear communication still depended on quality hardware and trained engineers, he said.

These trends strengthened Atek’s positioning in the industry. In 2025, the company received one of its most significant recognitions, the Outstanding SME Award at the Golden Bull Award 2025, a milestone described as defining.

“For us, it showed that our efforts were worthwhile, signalling to customers that we deliver value consistently,” he said. The award also underscored Atek’s growth from a reseller-based business into a solutions-driven organisation equipped to support clients end-to-end.

Values shaped by responsibility and community

Atek’s responsibilities extended beyond the systems it delivered. Long before CSR became a corporate expectation, its team regularly stepped into the community, visiting children’s homes, supporting elderly care centres, and offering quiet assistance to families in need. These efforts were modest in scale yet consistent in spirit. Over the years, they helped shape the company’s identity as much as any technical milestone.

As Atek grew, Chong Siang took on increasing responsibility and was eventually entrusted with full leadership when the founder stepped aside. His advice to aspiring entrepreneurs remained grounded in experience. Be responsible, keep moving and seek help when needed. Support, he noted, often arrived at exactly the moment it was required.

With hybrid work now a permanent part of Malaysia’s corporate landscape, Atek advanced its engineering capabilities and explored smarter, AI-enhanced meeting technologies. Aiming to do far more than install equipment, the company set out to inspire organisations to create meeting spaces where people could connect with clarity, collaborate with confidence and thrive amid the changing demands of the modern workplace.
