Raya this year has truly been an interesting experience for me.

Five years ago, when I criticised Umno for defending the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 (AUKU), which was a law meant to suppress student activism, my family members rallied against me.

I remember being called an “ungrateful child” for biting the hand which purportedly feeds us all. I didn’t even say that we should vote for the opposition, but that mere criticism of mine was sufficient to invite a strong emotional reaction from my family members...
