A Malay Muslim organisation which has forecast a war between Singapore and Malaysia within three years is openly using the Internet to recruit "field operatives" with a military background. Intelligence agencies say Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) has cells throughout Southeast Asia as well as direct lines to Osama bin Laden's (photo) al-Qaeda.

Suspected terrorists arrested in Singapore were planning to cripple military and other crucial targets as part of a plan to overthrow the Malaysian government and create an Islamic state there.

The Singapore government said today it has arrested a further 21 suspected terrorists, including some who had undergone military training at al-Qaeda camps in Afghanistan.
