The initial description of the suspect as a man in his 40s of North African descent is wrong.

Unidentified man also tried unsuccessfully to stab others, police say. 

The infants, aged 13 days, 22 days and 33 days, are in serious but stable condition.

Police say they haven't ruled out a terrorist background to the incident.

The suspect was found near the house in a mentally unstable state, says police.
