I refer to Malaysiakini report Even if the general falls, Pakatan will soldier on .
Such brave words from the de facto opposition leader. But no matter what, the people should accept the fact that the second sodomy trial will be Anwar Ibrahim’s Waterloo. By hook or by crook , the former deputy premier would be incarcerated as he is more dangerous to the government if he is free.
Only weak governments who are afraid of their own shadow and would use trumped-up charges against their political opponents to shut them up .Our country is no exception. Other Third World nations have used the same tactic to silences their opponents like Zimbawe and Burma where old dictators and generals use all the government machineries at their disposal to silence their critics
Malaysians can accept the fact that if people aspiring for high office fail to achieve their ambitions, it is due to their own weaknesses or failings. But to ‘kill off’ your political opponent by using the courts through a ‘sham trial’ is hitting below the belt and this can only increase the people’s revulsion for you.
In the meantime, PKR seems to have mutiny aboard the ship with a lot of their MPs lashing out at the Penang DAP chief minister’s way of running the state. For the ordinary people who want a transparent government, all these allegation thrown at the present chief minister of Penang seem to be personal and trivial in nature without any substance.
The chief minister was not alleged to have abused his power for personal gain and neither did he use his good office to enrich his cronies and family members. The only mistake he made was not to follow the previous state government’s method of granting special favours to political cronies.
These PKR MPs who broke rank from their collation partners are a disgrace to the party they represent and should be booted out of the party. Lest these PKR MPs forget, they won their seats not based on their personal popularity but because the people wanted a new beginning for Malaysians.
There seems to be a concerted effort to run down the DAP-led government in Penang. The latest is by disgruntled Malay illegal hawkers who demonstrated in front of the chief minister’s office due to their dissatisfactions over their stalls being torn down by the town council.
It is just a stunt to show that Malay petty traders are being victimised by a Chinese-led state government. Hopefully, thinking people will see that the old ways of pitting one race against another will not work now.
People know that there are unseen hands behind the demonstration to embarrass the state government and prevent them from doing their work professionally.
Coming back to Anwar’s second sodomy trial, even if the parliamentary opposition leader is sent to prison again, it won’t derail the opposition’s plans to take over the state government as the people’s support for them will increase rather than decrease when the next general election is held.
Let Anwar’s sacrifice of his personal liberty be not in vain and let his high-profile sham trial energise the people to make a difference at the ballot box when the time comes.
