Nuclear summit nothing but Western imperialism
I refer to the Malaysiakini report Najib in US to attend Washington Nuclear Summit .
I am disgusted that our Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has decided to attend the Global Nuclear Security Summit being held in Washington DC, US.
The nuclear summit is a sham because of two reasons. First of all, two nuclear powers have not been invited, namely North Korea and Iran. Secondly, a major nuclear power, Israel, has declined to attend.
So what is Malaysia, which is not a nuclear power, doing there at all?
I am disappointed that my country, Malaysia, would participate in a shameful event which is nothing but Western imperialism disguised as a security summit. The aims of the summit is to persuade the Non-Aligned Movement Member (NAM) countries to support stiffer and more crippling sanctions against Iran.
Furthermore, two countries being invited to the summit, India and Pakistan, have the notoriety of leaving the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). Surely it is the NPT which is the basis of nuclear non-proliferation cooperation between nations.
The US, by hosting this summit outside the framework of the NPT by inviting Pakistan and India, is showing contempt for the NPT and is creating a new world order based on pro-Israel and Western interests.
The Global Nuclear Security Summit is a farce. There is no genuine commitment by the nuclear powers to reduce their nuclear arsenal significantly. The US is calling for more powers for nuclear inspectors to board ships which are carrying nuclear material and for more tighter inspection of nuclear stockpiles.
Of course, this means ships destined for Iran only as the US and other Western nations would never allow the forceful boarding of their ships. And, neither would the US and Russia allow foreigners to walk about and inspect their nuclear facilities.
The hypocrisy is even more glaring when you consider that Israel does not even acknowledge it has nuclear weapons and thus would never admit nuclear inspectors in.
The Malaysian government has shown its true colours. It may criticise Israel in public. But in private, it is a different story.
