I am writing this letter in response to government concern that Malaysia would be bankrupt before 2020. I am really saddened by the verbal comments made by some ministers which are really blackmail.
I bought four cars and my wife bought three over a period of 20 years and every time we buy a car, we have to pay a hefty tax (40 percent) and we have to even take a loan to pay car taxes which the finance company makes money on through the interest charged.
Now, you are complaining about running out of money. Has the government looked into various leakages through contracts that make the rich richer while the poor have had to reduce their expenses more and more just to survive?
I can tell you that the moment you reduce/eliminate the fuel subsidy by letting the fuel price float, all our essential products prices will go up many fold in price and this will only create anger and you will be the talk of the town which will not be good news for the next general elections.
The road users will then need to pay toll, plus increased fuel prices plus higher than normal car prices compared to developed nations - so then when are we going to see a competitive lifestyle? I am even hearing implementation of the GST.
It looks like there is no end to the government burdening the rakyat and yet claiming the increase will not burden the rakyat. Remember, once you raise costs, it is very unlikely they will come down.
I even agree with some writers whom suggest that we do not give subsidies to foreigners who come to Malaysia just for few subsidised commodities.
I believe the government wrote contracts with some clauses that are one-sided and if so please go ahead and review the contracts and reduce or eliminate leakages. These include those concerning Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Telekom, the independent power producers, the toll companies, etc. See how much money you can save and this will give billions of ringgit back to government.
Come on, for a few to be rich, you are destroying many poor lives and eventually a great nation. What are you going to do with more and more money? There are always no limits for one to be rich and don't be fooled that money means power.
A new government can alter that fact and even worse, some other countries will invade Malaysia and make our money worthless just because of few individuals with a wrong mindset who sold the nation unconditionally.
Start from basics - remove leakages, return the money from past ‘legal robberries' and then you will see how much money you saved. I do not even see our government looking into innovations such extensive R&D (research and development) into using palm oil as bio-fuel or energy saving initiatives such as windmills, solar energy etc.
These will create vast amount of opportunities and will march our nation towards 2020 as a developed nation. Create water saving projects, clean energy and save on our petrol use - cultivate more public transport means via actions that are sustainable. Last but not least, be prepared for next general elections.
