We refer to the letter PTPTN should be more sympathetic . We thank you for the comments.

Students are required to start their loan repayment six months after completion of the course taken. Those pursuing further education are allowed deferment on their repayment during their study period.

But they will still be subjected to the administrative charges. Under the existing policy, students who take subsequent financing will be given priority for deferment upon request.

Effective Sept 1, 2010, an automatic deferment will be given. Those not eligible, would have to apply for the deferment because PTPTN wouldn’t know their status.

The deferment application form can be downloaded via the  PTPTN website under the ‘Borang, Jadual & Pekeliling’ section. Students have to complete the form and submit it to PTPTN with the relevant documents including their letter of offer from the higher education institution.

This document is needed as a proof of study and for determination of the deferment period to be approved. This is required as PTPTN does not have the details of the course taken. Once deferment is approved, no action, except those due to the defaulters themselves, will be taken during the deferment period.

PTPTN is willing and open in discussing with students who are having difficulties in their loan repayments. Deferments will also be considered for the unemployed.

This, however, will be limited to two years only and the approval depends on the information given to PTPTN.

Those having difficulties in their loan repayment and risk being defaulters are advised to come forward to PTPTN as soon as possible to discuss the matter in order to avoid enforcement and legal action being taken against them.

For further enquiries please contact PTPTN’s call centre at 03-20927788 or visit the website above.
