I refer to the Malaysiakini report Namewee faces sedition charge over video clip . I feel that Namewee is justly outraged over the recent spate of racist utterances by so-called educators.
The profanity used in Namewee's rap song is usually banned from civil discourse though it is often used in coffeeshop chatter by blue-collar workers to emphasise their points.
While I would not encourage its usage because it generates more heat than light in reasoned arguments, I can see the extent of the hurt that Namewee, who rightly considers himself a Malaysian patriot, must have felt.
I mean, we have spent a lifetime as Malaysians and in most cases so did our parents. And now some people still refer to us as ‘aliens’ and ask us to go back where we came from? Why are the police not grilling these people instead of Namewee?
I also read the letter The dark road leading to next polls and agree with the writer’s thoughtful thoughtful analysis.
I suspect the racist educators are merely pawns in a larger scheme to create discord so that the voter's rights will be nullified and those who claim to be champions of one particular race but are actually exploiting the nation's resources to line their own pockets can continue to loot the country.
Let us, who are offended by the overt racism, not play into their hands by reacting violently as this is precisely what the agents provocateurs want.
However, complete silence is not the answer. One must protest, else it's taken as consent.
Namewee did the right thing by lashing out with his tongue, not with his fists. Those whom his rapping is directed against have no moral grounds to complain about his use of expletives for their moral crime of racial bigotry is far, far greater.
It's a violation of human rights.
