Whether we acknowledge it or not there is a similarity between Nazism and the practice against the non-Malays for the last 53 years based on the ambiguity of Article 153.
Now let’s look at Nazism; one can Google up its entire history that was globally condemned for its ideology of a superior race to the rest. The practice of Nazism outreached policies, methodologies and all possible ways to ensure that one race controlled everything.
The Nazism remnant seems very obvious with the interpretation of Article 153 although that shouldn’t be the case.
We all know that Nazism was where the great Adolf Hitler put forward political and economic doctrines from 1933 to 1945 including totalitarian principles in order for the Aryan race of Germans to achieve and assume racial superiority and supremacy.
Now when you look at the statistics of Malaya after independence in 1957 to at least till 1980, a balance was there.
Then came our great Dr Mahathir, who ensured that his artificial “ketuanan Melayu” survived, not so much for the betterment of society, but for the survival of his legacy.
To some extent the blame also lies on the non-Malays as they were captivated with materialistic needs as opposed humane needs.
Mahathir was the chief architect who ensured that race supremacy ruled beyond humane needs.
Let’s look at it this way, if I as a non-Malay can make some money and achieve materialistic needs with this ketuanan Melayu concept around, why bother?
Mahathir knew how to cajole the people and ensure that he is able to sustain the misleading ketuanan Melayu concept but today we are feeling the long-term effect.
Ketuanan Melayu is an artificial paraphrase that has been conveniently used wherever it fits its agenda. I must say both factions of politicians run an agenda, but we the public need to heed the need of the public under current circumstances to shut them down for the betterment of its people not howling and hailing when its fits our own agenda.
All constitutions written in the post-colonial era had never given preference to a superior race but accepted and treated all equally for the sake of humanity. Even the archaic constitution of Medina instituted a number of rights for the Hindu, Muslim, Jewish, Christian and pagan communities of Medina, bringing them within the fold of one community known as Ummah.
The people have autonomy and freedom of religion; and there is to be no treachery between the two.
So, what is this Article 153 and its purported ketuanan Melayu about?
An individual’s socio-economic development and freedom should never be hindered by the supremacy of a particular race.
In order to appease the royalty and continue to reap the benefit of Malaya, the British maintained the royalty’s status quo.
Ironically, Mahathir was able to strip the royalty off their power and those who shouted about ketuanan Melayu just sat and accepted it in those crisis years in the 1980s and 1990s.
Now suddenly you have ketuanan Melayu creeping again, being manipulated for political needs.
We, the public, need to grasp and participate beyond the typical know-how. We should unite for a humane cause no matter how skewed it looks. As long as it is for the truth, it is a cause worth fighting for.
There is no point in venting out frustrations through blogging alone. Get involved.
To further illustrate my point, when non-Malays do their religious obligations, it is not tax-deductible unless the church or temple has applied and obtained the approval for tax exemption, which seldom happens.
The same rule however doesn’t apply for zakat, which is tax-deductible.
