Congratulations to Malaysiakini and Aidila Razak for a great piece of investigative journalism in the series of articles on the Western Digital foreign workers’ plight . You have helped put right a serious wrong.

Western Digital’s management and the Immigration department should be ashamed that it took a kick in the rear by Malaysiakini for them to fix a problem that has been manifest for over two years.

It is a mockery to Immigration that it took nine months to resolve a problem that they say could be done in a day. And how about the ‘Best Employer in Asia Award’ winner? Western Digital has depressed wages by filling itself to the brim with cheap labour and keeping Malaysians out.

All these foreign multinationals get their way in sidelining Malaysians by threatening and blackmailing to move their businesses out of Malaysia if the government does not heed their requests for cheap foreign workers.

So this way they keep wages depressed so much so that no Malaysian can afford to hold their jobs and live in the cities at such low wages. As a result these companies fill those places up with low wage foreigners claiming no Malaysians want these jobs, and that Malaysian production workers rather work in 7-11, as one senior foreign corporate executive had claimed some time ago in Penang.

Keep up the good work Malaysiakini ! Probably a thorough report in future by you on the foreign labour situation would be most welcome for our nation. It will help propel us into a high wage earner and provide employment to hundreds of thousands of our people.
