Beliawanis MCA strongly condemns the blatant violation of rights of women and the insult of young women in politics by irresponsible political parties.

We are extremely disappointed with the remarks and comments in social media that insult the character and dignity of young women who took part in the recently concluded MCA Youth annual general meeting.

The degrading remarks by the opposition over the week have hurt the feelings of women in Malaysia.

The remarks have caused much distress and emotional anguish among the young women involved who are now being exploited by opportunists for their political mileage.

We demand that they stop the offensive and deplorable comments. We demand that they stop demeaning women.

Beliawanis MCA is also gravely disturbed by the recent posting s in the Suara Keadilan Malaysia blog which depicts lewd and pornographic images of women and linking them to young women's participation in politics.

We are appalled by the dirty tactic employed by the irresponsible parties to further their political agenda.

Beliawanis MCA hereby demands for the posting to be removed from the Suara Keadilan Malaysia blog and a public apology from the author.

Women leaders silent

Beliawanis MCA is also disappointed by the fact that women leaders in Pakatan Rakyat have not stepped up to condemn the barrage of derogatory remarks in both print and online media.

We are upset that these leaders who claimed to represent the voice of women and who also are soughting for a fair, just and equal society have been silent and thus indirectly condone such below-the-belt attacks on women.

Beliawanis MCA reiterates our support for women participation in politics and right to join any political party, irrespective of age, background, occupation, religion or race.

We encourage and support the involvement of women in political processes and nation building.

We wish to also demand women leaders from Pakatan Rakyat to state their position on the remarks made by their colleagues and the posting in the S uara Keadilan Malaysia blog.

Beliawanis MCA is also dismayed that Gan Pei Nei, state assemblyperson for Rawang and Lee Khai Loon, PKR Youth Information Chief, have yet to respond to calls for them to apologise and retract their statements last week which also insulted and hurt the feelings of young women in MCA.

Beliawanis MCA feels that elected representatives are not only legislators but also role models in the society and as such, should demonstrate sensitivity in their comments.
