I read Susan Loone's article Report lodged against PJ police chief over alleged violence with mixed emotions that was a blend of amusement and indignation.
I am particularly amused by the sheer audacity and stupidity of OCPD Sheikh Mustafa. He must have some sick sense of reality or humour to call himself a gentleman. If anyone was rude during that day, it was the OCPD himself. In one instance, when I was trying to talk to him, one of his henchmen tried to push me away. So, I warned him not to touch me lest I sue him for assault. To which the OCPD replied "F**k you!"
With a commander like that, I am not surprised that the FRU behaved like thugs.
Now, I am indignant because of the manner in which the police, especially the OCPD, is trying to distort the the facts of Sunday's events. For instance, I was not arrested as stated by the OCPD, and neither was I detained because we refused to disperse.
As far as I know, no orders for dispersal were issued, and the police acted against us without reasonable cause or warning. Indeed, the last order I heard given by one officer by the name of Rafiq was for the FRU to fall back to 'defence position'.
In any case, I do not believe that there is anything in the Criminal Procedure Code that allows for the police to arrest anyone simply to gertak (intimidate) them.
Further, the traffic jam was caused by the police roadblocks, and not by the people who gathered peacefully to commemorate Anwar Ibrahim's birthday.
And despite Sheikh Mustafa's remark about the people's childishness, I think there is nothing wrong with people trying to commemorate the birthday of Anwar in this fashion, especially since they are not allowed to approach the prison, much less visit and share the cake with him.
As for my shirt, I will put this challenge to Sheikh Mustafa: Tell thepublic or the media how I allowed my shirt to be torn by a Keadilan supporter, and also release the report made at the Sungei Pulong police station. If he dares to do so, I will present my evidence in court when I bring an action against him for defamation.
I may be a politician, but I am not an actor.
